“Hi, I’m Dr. Reese. I was called for a psych consult because you’re having a surgical procedure done?” Sarah addressed the patient, a teenaged girl. Maybe 14? 15? Then she turned to the girl’s mother. She offered her hand with a warm smile, “Hi, Ms. Rossie. No one called me because they’re concerned, but it is standard procedure at Chicago Med for a psych evaluation before under going a surgical procedure.”
“Are you-would your first name be Sarah, by chance? If you don’t mind me asking?” Sarah’s eyebrows crinkled in confusion as she turned back to the girl in the hospital bed.
“Yes,” Sarah answered the young girl hesitantly. In an instant the girl’s eyes brightened and she practically beamed at Sarah.
“You won the Prix de Fonteyn back in 2006 and you were one of the youngest ever to win! Everyone was amazed at the creativity of your Hades routine! My ballet instructor showed us last month!”
Sarah’s smile faltered at that sentence. The girl went on. Sarah could hear her voice buzzing in the background, but the curly-haired brunette was already lost in her own head. At the memories filtering through.
He Looks Up Grinning Like a Devil (I can’t handle another year of you and I just being fine.)
Turns out it wasn’t the talk show that let all of Chicago Med know about Andi. (And Sarah, you are referring to yourself in the third person again) No, the news came in the form of her former on-again-off-again boyfriend and former ex-husband in recent years: Dominic Cohen. (Movie Star extraordinary. He got his start on some Disney Channel sitcom though, around the same time she did in the music industry.) In the ED with a broken arm. She hadn’t even heard he was in Chicago.
She heard his voice before she saw him, “...yeah, I’m trying to do my own stunts for this new superhero movie I’m doing. Think Tony Stark with more Bruce Wayne vibes though.”
Sarah stiffed as Will responded, “I see. That sound very cool. But I’m afraid Mr. Cohen you do have a broken arm.”
Maybe if she moved quickly, he wouldn’t see her. She thought before she scrambled away from the wall hiding her. But no such luck because a moving gurney blocked her path. She met Dom’s kaleidoscope hazel eyes from across the room. He squinted as if he didn’t recognize her. Then he uttered. “Andi?”
Will looked behind him. Then the redheaded man looked back at her ex. “I think you have the wrong person because that’s Dr. Reese. She’s our psych resident here in the ED most days.”
“Actually Will, he doesn’t.” Sarah cleared her throat nervously as confusion took over her friend’s face. “Andi is my stage name.”
