"Sudoku" featuring Professional Dancer & Choreographer Jascha Coles
Chong Kim, a survivor of human trafficking (who's story has been dramatized for the movie "The Abduction of Eden") actively brings forth awareness to the worldwide epidemic of human trafficking. In October of 2011, Chong Kim shared her story of survival on A-T-Elle Radio, hosted by Angela Carswell and Reggie Cason. After the stirring interview, the hosts made the decision to do their part to bring awareness to the epidemic. "I was surprised that many of my peers were not aware of the epidemic," says Angela Carswell, Playwright. "Reggie and I decided we must do something creative to spread awareness. After some careful consideration, the stage play Rimshot Urban Musical was born. Our dynamic cast contribute their talents to create a very engaging and inspirational story suitable for all ages. We use the proceeds to reinvest into preventative and awareness initiatives." To date, the production has been featured at several venues to include Atlanta's 14th Street Playhouse, the Atlanta Institute of Music, Macon's Douglass Theater, and the Fabrefaction Theater.
"Rimshot tells to the dynamic story of 'Jada', a young, vibrant lady who is being tempted by the lures of the quick and often demoralizing route to fame", say Reggie Cason, Co-Producer and Creative Director. "The story is suitable for all ages and will inevitably bring awareness to the growing epidemic of human trafficking and the commercial and sexual exploitation of children". Two cast members, Sash La'Ki (a songwriter, author, and hip hop artist), Lyrika Holmes (vocalist and harpist), and D. Focis (producer) collaborated to create a song inspired by the poetry of Chong Kim. That song is now available for download on an International campaign to inspire survivors of various types of abuse. "We are socially responsible theater! Our intention is to launch a national tour, targeting every major city identified as a hub for human trafficking," says Angela Carswell. "Sudoku is featured in our stage production and will be the first single on the soundtrack associated with Rimshot Urban Musical".
