Okay but TASM is the best for many reasons but the main reason for me is 1000% because of the scene in the first film with the cranes. I woke up this morning and put on the movie just to watch that scene. Nothing will make me more emotional than watching all these people coming together to move cranes and light the damn way with the helicopter just to HELP Peter. Nothing. This movie is the best even for that alone.
Also the eggs. The damn eggs.
No one does it like TASM for real. Like, the attention to detail, the feelings, the meaning behind every action, the family dynamic between May and Peter (and Ben), all the side characters... The best part of Marc Webb's directing work is that he's character driven, so he actually focuses more on the feelings than on the huge action sequences and the fact that he was chosen to do this movie after 500 Days of Summer attests to that. The movie's a love story and he makes sure you know that from the very first second. Really, no one does it like TASM.
What I like more about that crane scene is that it's a direct follow up of what happened at the bridge with Jack and his dad? The scenes where Spider-Man interacts or saves the people of New York are always the best because he's a working class hero, but, unlike the scene from Spider-Man 2 where the people in the train save Peter from falling down, the crane scene in TASM is personal and intimate to some degree.
Peter becomes Spider-Man after saving Jack on that bridge, and that's when New York "adopts" him as a vital part of them. When Jack's dad sees Spidey needs help, he doesn't hesitate to give it, because they created a community and Spider-Man is no longer a distant figure they see occasionally, he's part of them. This man saw Spider-Man limping after getting shot and immediately went "dude, I'm here for you. We have each other's backs, man". And that's so beautiful.
That's why New York should be front and center of any Spider-Man story. He's the soul of the city, and not just like this unreachable borderline divine figure that we usually see in superhero tales.
Also the fact that blue-collar workers are the ones helping Spider-Man after the cops shot him... I mean, that's poetic cinema.
And the eggs! The way he hands them to May when he gets home after seeing his girlfriend's dad die in his arms showing he's learned to be responsible...
Oh, man. I love TASM so much, it's such a good movie.
