Title: I Like Her Too.
“Oh, you like him...for real? Like...in real life?”
Hinata was temporarily stunned at her friend. Ino had stopped searching through a crowded rack of last season’s crop-tops to look at Hinata. Her face held a concern that Hinata didn’t understand.
“Yes,” said Hinata. Her lip twitched into a smile. “I do.”
“Sasuke,” said Ino. Like she needed clarification, like they knew another Sasuke. “Uchiha Sasuke like my Sasuke Uchiha? You like him?”
“Should I not?” Hinata asked. She shifted on her heel as her back started to ache from standing so long. Saturday shopping trips with Ino were both therapeutic and traumatic.
“I mean...” she strained. “Do what you want, you know? I’m just surprised. How’d this happen?”
Hinata watched the blonde fiddle with a terrible floral shirt. Orange and green flowers with tiny birds all over it. Hideous. The material felt like tablecloth.
“Ino, what aren’t you telling me?”
She pressed her lips for a moment. Her eyes darted as her conscience talked to her. Devil and the angel and it seemed like good won when she groaned. “Sasuke is my friend. I know the kid, you know?”
“Yeah.”
“I just didn’t think he was affectionate.”
“He is.”
Ino seemed shocked again but she continued, “He isn’t a bad guy — he’s my friend. I don’t know though...I’m protective over you too and if he hurts you—“
“We’re not dating Ino.”
“Would you?”
Hinata’s smile faded. A sale’s associate walked up to them. “Is everything alright? Can I help you ladies with anything?”
“No,” said Ino. “Thank you.”
She continued smiling. “Okay, well, if you’re interested in anything and need some help just give me a call. My name is Mai.”
“Thank you Mai,” said Hinata.
Ino tossed a blue velvet shirt in her bag. “At the end of the day if you like it then I love it.”
“You’re skirting around Ino. What don’t you want to say?”
“Nothing!”
Hinata narrowed her eyes. “Nothing?”
Ino smiled quickly. “Nothing.”
