Warnings: graphic violence & character death in a nightmare, Hurt/Comfort, Iorveth whump
Notes: More love for Iorveth and his dragon queen. I don’t write Saskia enough, I feel, and am very fond of this ship, so I tried to remedy that a little with this fic for Day 2 of @iorvethappreciationweek !
I can smell blood, Saskia says after a moment. Fresh blood. Did you not look after your wounds properly?
“I did.” Iorveth sighs. He should have known that he couldn’t hide his condition from her. Even without her enhanced senses she likely would have known that something was wrong. “Stitches must’ve come undone again.”
Show me. The words in his mind are spoken with gentle insistence. Iorveth groans.
“It’s fine. There’s no need to worry. I’ll see one of the healers later.”
Iorveth. Gentle reproach, this time. Let me see. It would be unsightly if one of the queen’s most trusted advisors were to bleed out in his sleep in her den.
“I’m not bleeding out, I promise. It’s just a few stitches.” Iorveth drops his tunic from one of his shoulders to show her the bandages wound around his waist. There are several spots of bright red that have begun to blossom on them, but none of them are growing at an alarming rate. Saskia brings her head around to nuzzle softly at his chest, just the barest of touches of scales on skin and warm air flooding over him. Her nostrils flare when she takes in the air around him, searching for the stench of infection which Iorveth knows she won’t find.
So you didn’t come here to die, then. The humour in Saskia’s voice belies the seriousness of her words. I always worry with you, you know. Iorveth rolls his eyes.
