the kitten immediately rubs against his shoe again.

“You’ve either mistaken me for someone else, or you’ve made an exceptionally good decision.”

he crouches down, offering a hand. The kitten sniffs his fingers for all of two seconds before climbing directly into his lap.

there is a brief silence.

he carefully picks it up, the picture of composure despite the faint smile threatening to appear.

“That settles it, then.”

the kitten purrs loudly, completely unbothered by the life-changing decision it has apparently just made.

“You’re coming home with me. You look rather smart, maybe you would like to read together…?”

on the walk to the house of lamentation, he continues planning what they shall do together, a childish grin on his face
