I was watching Martha’s farewell scene on YT earlier… the video was ancient, probably filmed on a wood-fired toaster or something. and the comments were all over the place. (especially that cursed place called reddit)
a lot of people saying Martha had a forgettable ending. that she’s a forgettable character because she didn’t get some huge dramatic narrative like rose or Donna.
Donna’s whole problem was that she didn’t feel special. she didn’t feel capable. every other episode she’s complaining she’s “just a temp”.
so how do we prove she’s actually competent? how do we show she can be amazing despite that?
apparently the answer was… give her godlike power. and then immediately take it away.
so Donna goes from nothing to nowhere.
rose is panicking, doesn’t know what to do… looks into the heart of the tardis… boom. powers. and in season two ( yeah I don’t care if people disagree with me on this) it goes to her head so badly that she and the Doctor basically dig their own grave.
so here’s my question.
take the power away from Donna. take the power away from rose.
what do you actually have left?
yeah…
exactly...
