Day 869
Every once in a while, I fall into playing copious amounts of House Flipper. Not necessarily because I find the mechanics super engaging. Games like House Flipper rely on the sense of satisfaction. The mechanics are just easy enough so it doesn’t feel tedious, but gives you enough to do that you feel like you’ve done something.
Most importantly, as the player, you can see your progress as you turn a dirty and rundown building into a beautiful location. This feeling of satisfaction is also the reason why I do journal decorating. The satisfaction of turning a blank page into a decorated spread for me to use is very satisfying.
And actually have a use in my life.
But the other reason why I enjoy playing House Flipper is the problem solving, an aspect you don’t associate with the game. What I like to do is take what the game tells me about a property and then turn it into a place that I think a person (primarily me) would use.
Like in House Flipper 2, I bought a location that used to be a Farmer’s Market. Instead of turning it into a livable home, I was like, okay let’s revive the Farmer’s Market. How could I not when there were leftover flyers all over this market petitioning for people to not let franchises take over their little town. This meant I did a survey of the area while cleaning to determine where walls could go, stalls could go and this place needed a better washroom.
In fact I spent way too much time planning the washroom, because the original layout only had two washrooms, and neither of them were accessible. As someone who bitches about accessible washrooms out in public, that could not stand.
It’s a weird thing to do, but it was fun even if I ran out of money because that property was a very expensive purchase. Guess it’s time to do odd jobs in game to continue to revive my little Farmer’s Market.
