11. How are they vocally expressive? What kind of voice, accent, tones, inflections, volume, phrases and slang, and manner of speaking do they use?
merc has a very neutral sounding voice that tends to lean towards the sarcastic / snarky side of the spectrum, even if that wasn’t his honest intention to do. he just has a habit of doing it! there isn’t much fluctuation when it comes to his tone, honestly. he has always had a smooth voice, silken through his lips and very calm and composed. even when he’s angry, excited or terrified, it all remains the same volume, or at least somewhere near it. it actually has caused a bit of backlash amongst certain people, being labeled then as ‘apathetic’ and whatnot when he is only slightly so. he isn’t the most empathetic but he definitely is compassionate when it comes to certain things. he’s just not that great at showing it vocally.
it’s rare for merc to use formalities and proper speech when he’s talking to someone, even when said someone is of higher position compared to him. it’s mostly because he couldn’t care any less about his current work situation and would much rather get fired since it would save him the trouble of doing it himself. he speaks very casually to most people, if not everyone. occasional slang thrown here and there but he doesn’t overdo it too much. just enough for people to understand what he’s saying without anyone thinking that’s he’s trying a little too hard. this is much different when he’s texting, however, because on mobile or online, he tends to use A LOT.
24. How do they present themselves socially? What distinguishes their “persona” from their “true self”, and what causes that difference?
merc is actually quite honest given his situation as a criminal ( albeit, not a very known well one ) and so he doesn’t feel the need to hide things he doesn’t find important. in the face of society, he comes off as charming and cool with a sharp tongue. not necessarily brimming with charisma but just enough confidence to easily talk to someone along the street, no matter the situation. this is what everyone knows him for and what he himself would write in his autobiography if he ever bothered to do one. it would be the most boring biography in the history of the world. even as a grunt, when his identity should be hidden, he still maintains that certain collectiveness that pulls him away from the aggression most grunts were well known for and their greed. merc is not a greedy person nor is he wrathful. anyone could easily spot and name him and he wouldn’t even bother hiding it.
however, there are a few things that he would rather keep to himself and not let be known. merc is actually quite shy. whilst he can easily talk to most people on the street and even his bosses with astounding ease and casual tones, he is inwardly shy and gets quite embarrassed by other’s actions rather than his own. another reason he never outright volunteers anything is because of this timidity, whilst most would assume it was because he wouldn’t want the work-load on his shoulders again ( which isn’t necessarily a lie ) another thing that he tends to hide from other’s is his fascination with books and science. most people would have assumed mercutio to be one that pushes off work of any kind, reading too much of a hassle and science too complex to understand but in fact, he downright enjoys reading books and thesis on different theories and what not. he also finds enjoyment in reading about history ( again, not everyone would have known this about him. ) so even if he may come off as cool, merc has a rather dorky side to which he would seldom ever let be known, but it’s not like he downright tries to hide it from anyone because in his own views, what’s the point?
38. Is there anything they wish they could change about their worldview or thought processes? What, and why?
mercutio’s view of the world is actually quite negative compared to most people’s. from negative to neutral in a spectrum of what he thinks, he can’t really explain why he would think that. most likely from his background and then to his current situation, it never really seemed to benefit him, his only rewards being his pokemon and exceptional taste in aromas around him. but otherwise, not at all. the though process to led him to so isn’t much better, even going as far to follow the philosophy that you don’t reap what you sow, but rather you are born into a story that you cannot rewrite. a rather pessimistic view on life that seems to push him further and further from his dream of becoming johto’s best breeder, but in his eyes, that seemed to be the case. not once had he been allowed to do what he wanted for his own benefit instead of what other’s wanted or for another’s benefit. from when he had to take care of his sickly mother to when he was forced into something he did not want to do.
he is well aware of this mentality and he actually despises it most of all, but it’s not something he can simply switch over into a lighter view of life itself. that is definitely something merc wants to change about his own opinions. he does not want to live a life thinking that everything had been written down in detailed chapters already, no room for change and no room for improvement. it’s definitely one thing that keeps holding him back from just leaving team rocket and training to be a groomer. he would go to school too if he could! it was this sort of pessimism that kept merc grounded into something he hated, roots starting to spread but instead of finding energy it would only drain his own. not once had he ever shared this opinion with anyone, however. it’s not that he’s ashamed of it either but, if he stopped talking about it, thinking about it and overanalysing something that just wasn’t as concrete as he had hoped, then maybe he would stop seeing it as the truth too.

❛ back from your little trip to the spirit world ? ❜
for the meta thing: katara's relationship with her grangran? (because not a lot of people talk about it)
send me a topic to write a meta about my muse on
Yes god bless I love this!!!
Okay so to me after Katara’s mom died Kanna would serve as a more motherly figure and Katara would ( eventually ) willingly accept it. Though I’d think Kanna is much more of tough love and less affectionate than Kya was.
I think it was Kanna that decided that Katara should have her necklace. After Kya passed Katara would have just assumed that it would return to her grandmother since it had originally been hers even though she wanted it for sentimental reasons. But Kanna would just be like ‘no, it means far more to you than it does to me’. From that day forth Katara held a much greater appreciation for her Gran Gran. Not that she hadn’t previously appreciated her but that act of kindness and love was definitely something she’s never forget.
To me Kanna is someone who is hardly affectionate in standard meaning of the term. She’s not a hugger, in fact she doesn’t like to be touched at all very much. This has always been something didn’t sit well with Katara. Katara is an incredibly affectionate and caring person and loves to show her love for the people she cares about. Not being able to and feeling a a bit rejected all the times her grandmother pushed her away would certainly affect her negatively.
But Kanna ( like Toph ) has a different way of showing affection but would pass it off as nothing. “Oh I made myself breakfast but I made too much so I saved it for you.” stuff like that. Katara is a perceptive person and she’d eventually know what’s up and moments like this would be met a smile and occasionally an attempt of a hug.
