Every time I think of Kai threatening Nao with the knife, I’m reminded that he can’t kill. What was his plan if she refused?? Trauma dump about his dead brother until she agreed just to get him to stop?

Something I find so interesting is that, at least in the short moments we see, Rio Laizer is even farther from Sei Satou than Rio Ranger was. So making Ranger “human” did not equal the human he was based on.

Sei and Laizer have similar emotional capacity, but their life experience is so wildly different that they are nowhere near the same person. Giving Ranger his full emotions didn’t bring back Sei, it created an entire new version because, without his human memories and experiences, he cannot ever return to being Sei Satou.

something I’ve been thinking about for a while is Sei and the death game. other than as a floor master, I don’t think he would be around it at all if he were the sole victor of the assassin trial. Sei isn’t a failure, and he’s also more direct. he wouldn’t be sent away by ASU-NARO, and he still has his relationship with his father, because unlike Kai, he’d demand it.

now if he and Kai both, for some reason, managed to survive, Sei might get dragged into the death game trying to keep Kai out of it and failing. with them both dragged in, Sei’s single goal is to make sure Kai gets out alive (and also himself, considering he’d have repaired his relationship with Gashu by now, thus believing his life has at least some small value).

personally, I believe Sei would end up with the sacrifice card. luckily for Sei, he’s suspicious and probably hated by the other participants. he’s rude, vulgar and sometimes outright cruel to them, and I doubt he’d keep his Asunaro employment secret for very long (it benefits him to use his superior knowledge of the organization as a way to bargain, keeping himself and Kai out of immediate danger). simply put, I think he’d get the majority vote.

I doubt Sei would have any guilt over letting some people die—he’s an assassin, after all, and he shows no remorse over killing. he’d happily sacrifice all their lives to get Kai to safety. Kai probably wouldn’t be too pleased, with all his perfect morals and Sara, but that doesn’t bother Sei. he’s home now! he kept Kai safe, and he survived, and dad’s proud of him! happy ending, except for those bastards, but who cares about them?

Gashu probably had a “better” relationship with Sei than with Kai. At the very least, I’d say they were probably closer on an emotional level, just because of Kai and Sei’s very different behaviors toward him.

Kai is obsessed with pleasing his father. He wants to appear “perfect” to him. Sei just wants acknowledgment for his talent. It’s far easier to bond with him, because he doesn’t unintentionally push his father away the same way Kai does.

And then Sei died.

Sei headcanons if he survived the assassin trial and into adulthood:

- aromantic allosexual (Kai is a biromantic asexual so they can’t relate to each other at all in terms of attraction)

- really close with Michiru Namida. hear me out I think they could be the ultimate qpps

- good relationship with his father and brother because he’s ALIVE and HAPPY

- ice cream. so much ice cream. unhealthy amounts of ice cream.

- tells people who ask if he’s adopted that his father gave birth to him. Gashu has given up on stopping him because it’s easier than arguing with his grown ass son about it

- works as an assassin (obviously). zero plans for the future because he doesn’t see himself living past 35-40

- got an ADHD diagnosis somewhere in his teen years when his father arranged for an appointment without his knowledge

- frenemies to weirdly genuine friends with Midori just trust me on this one (Kai does not approve)

- friends with Boy in Green trust

Sei would enjoy all kinds of sweet things (except tiramisu, of course) but ice cream is his favorite…

It makes seeing Ranger with that ice cream he’ll never eat in hand just a touch more painful for Gashu

I do think the Satou family (had Sei made it into adulthood) would be around the same height. Kai is 5’10” if I remember, I’ve always believed that Gashu is 6’ exactly, and I’d put Sei in the middle at 5’11” (but he tries to exaggerate the difference between him and Kai)
