Thamer Mohammed 🇸🇦
Hello, I am 37 year old Saudi, and she is 28 year old Russian, both of us never married before. currently abroad and we were contemplating marriage, I just read about all those obstacles. Unfortunately I don't have the time to obtain marriage permit, and was planning to marry her in Russia so she can obtain ability to apply for visa to be with me in country of scholarship. would it be hard to obtain recognition later in Saudi? thank you a lot
Hello and thanks for writing in!
The duration of time it takes to receive either marriage permission or marriage approval is different for everyone. Marriage approval has proven to be more difficult so I hope you have patience as my fiancé did not have it when we filed for the marriage permission.
If you go ahead with getting married first then I would make sure to have every document in order to file when you do. Hopefully everything goes well and you receive it with no difficulty inshallah.
Good day, my bridegroom-to-be proposed to my parents last month with his dad and mom. He had to convince them ahead, which was not an easy process as he was already engaged - "married" on documents but he had never even spoken with her (hopefully it ended because he took to long to organize for their wedding) - and I am not Saudi. Still, they gave me my chance and approved after meeting with my parents overseas and realizing that we were not very different (I come from a very conservative Arab family, although I am born, raised and national of a western country). Now he has to go through that marriage permission thing, as we do not plan to marry overseas and/or live together before we are religiously and legally married in regards to the Saudi Arabian law. I have seen everywhere that it is a long process - especially since he is 33 years old and has divorced since more than two years. He is about to fill out all of their paperwork and submit his request to the MOI in Riyadh, although he works and lives in Jeddah. He might know some people working for the MOI that helped him out while he had troubles while studying overseas, but he will only make his point to them in the case he gets denied. Now, we are not sure whether the age restriction applies when you are divorced and the 2 years post-divorce rule is filled... Besides, I have seen that rules have changed as follows: "The new regulations call for the establishment of a committee tasked with looking into all applications by Saudis to take foreign spouses. The members should give their opinion on the request within one month of receiving the application". I guess it is good news for those couples out there who have been waiting for months and months to get an answer... Anyway, hope that your case is getting better and that you will soon tie the knot with your hubby.

Shukran for your kind blessings. Hopefully that is good news that they have to give a decision sooner instead of making couples wait so long. I hope it doesn't make them deny more cases in the process, however. I heard you have to wait 6 months to apply again if denied 😔 I hope your case goes smoothly and that you are able to get the permission quickly inshallah!
My Saudi Story
So the love of my life came here to the US as a student for his work and we unexpectedly synced and fell in love. He was trying to stay permanently but here’s the catch.
He’s in their military and while he is in the military he can only marry a Saudi woman. He has 7 more years to go. Waiting seven years isn’t a big concern to me. Convincing his mom is a totally different story.
In comparison to other families, his is a little more open minded. They aren’t as closed minded as other families when it comes to women. His brother’s wives don’t need to be separated from their brothers in law because they are all family. However, he knows I could never permanently live in Saudi and him living far is a touchy subject.
Normally when his mom mentions marriage or if she thinks she found someone, he can say no. However, recently his grandma has been pressuring his mom to arrange a marriage for him because he is the only one out of his of-age brothers who isn’t married. He turns thirty this year, by the way.
Anyway, he was going to just refuse the marriage offers his mom was proposing until he was out of the military and try to convince her to let him marry me if she found out or it became very necessary for her to know.
Now that his mom is under more pressure, he is too. Now he’s looking for the right moment to tell her about me and convince her to let him marry me. His main concern is the distance of him living in the US if we do get married.
I’m not sure exactly what to ask except what do you think we should do? Or what advice can you give us?
Hi! Thank you for your submission. It is refreshing to hear that you can wait to be with him first of all. I have so many women saying that that would be very difficult for them when their man isn’t even in the military! We are just talking about the time it might take to receive the marriage permission.
He needs to talk to his mother honestly. If he wants to wait to be with you then he should express that openly to her. It’s his happiness at stake. I know they are very family oriented and usually only want to do what their families want them to, but since his is a bit more open-minded then you might have a good chance. If that conversation goes well then you should also be in contact with his mother. Show that you are there for him, love him and are willing to wait until he is out of the military. Do you happen to know when that might be?
I just want to ask what does a muslim man look for in a woman? Does nationality/religion really matter? Why they fall in love with other nationality but end up in muslim woman?
I think everyone is looking for love and if they end up being with a Muslim woman it is because they don’t have the strength or the patience to go against the grain of their society.

Delayed truce announcement by Saudi-led force comes after two senior officers killed in an attack near the city of Taiz.
A ceasefire to halt nine months of war in Yemen will now begin on Tuesday morning instead of midnight as previously announced, coinciding with the start of UN-backed peace talks in Switzerland.
