A week ago I attended and hosted the 19th annual #DesignCare. I found the courage to stand up for myself and others from watching @hollyrpeete fight for her father, son and so many others! And real talk, she advocated for me and helped me get the care I needed because until #ACA I couldn't get my #IBD covered. So, special shout out to @hollyrpeete & @rodneypeete9 for not only being amazing friends to my mom and great bosses to me. But just being people that young people can look up to, and strangers can count on! This is my life after #ACA was enacted. I didn't waste. I have dedicated my life and time to not only supporting non profits have a better quality of life. But I advocate for those who cannot speak to members of congress themselves. I have used skills and resources pertaining to policy by helping make change for those who are affected by chronic conditions, disabilities and illnesses. Having coverage changes my life after it saved it. I'm pretty disappointed that a Gastroentologist who opposed any bill that was anti patient, ended up changing his vote and voted with his party. These are the moments I would have missed if I didn't get insurance in enough time to have my life saving surgery. #ACA was never intended to sit and remain in its form. It can be fixed. Or we can come up with a much better bill. But the solution is not current repeal option. There is NOTHING in that bill that will save someone who is currently in the health crisis I was in. If we allow them to die because politicians want to win a victory for their party, shame on us. The fate of healthcare is hanging in the balance right now. There's a lot of confusion right now and the #ORRA doesn't have any info in patient protections. So let's give them the information.
