@savezaun said: "he's babying me," jinx growls in frustration, kicking vaguely at the wall they're standing next to. sprinkles noses at their hand, making jinx absently pet the dog, also keeping their hands busy as they complain, rolling their eyes. "he doesn't think i can handle it, so he's making me stay behind. ugh!"
Caitlyn finished pulling on her gloves, pausing for a moment as she looked over at Jinx. Her sister’s frustration was written all over her — kicking the wall, rolling her eyes, grumbling under her breath. Caitlyn let out a soft sigh, adjusting the gloves before leaning her rifle against the wall. She hated seeing Jinx feel this way, but she knew their father’s reasons.
❝ It’s not that he doesn’t trust you,❞ Caitlyn started, her voice calm but firm.
❝ You know he does. I trust you, too. You’re incredible at what you do, and everyone knows that. But… this? It’s just a different kind of situation. One that needs to be handled in a different manner, which is what I'm good at.❞
She stepped closer, crouching slightly to meet their gaze.
❝ Remember when he made me stay behind that one time? And you were the one who caught that traitor? He believed in you then, just like he believes in you now. But we can’t always take on every fight together, you and me. Sometimes… it’s about the right person for the job.❞
Caitlyn reached out, gently resting a hand on Jinx’s shoulder.
❝ I know it doesn’t feel fair, and it sucks to wait. But you’re not being left behind because you can’t handle it. You’re being left behind because this time, dad thinks it’s the best way to keep us all safe. Okay?❞ Her voice softened.
❝ We’ve got this. Both of us, in our own ways. Besides, who is going to guard Sprinkles while I'm not here?❞
