2. What’s your favorite piece of clothing
Oh man, I am such a chameleon. For home/errand running/walking my dogs, either sportswear/capri leggings or loose Indonesian/Indian batik/print dresses; when I do Financial Manager work, I wear power suits, skirts and stilettos; when I go to University or Medical practices, it’s jeans, polo shirts, tailored blouses and sometimes classical dresses (Audrey Hepburn like), and I also love wearing full traditional regional dress – I have a Scottish kilt, Malay batik dresses, a German dirndl, a Chinese cheongsam and I’m pining for a sari. And when I am home with just the family, I have my Supergirl T-shirt and knickers (US: panties), nothing else. If I picked ONE item, it would be a pink natural silk scarf I have just because I lent it to so many people and brought it to so many countries: Philippines, Italy, Cyprus, Spain… and used it as hijab, as a scarf, as a shawl, as a blanket, as a towel, as a pillow and as a wrap around. And if I had a choice and this world were different, I would be a full time nudist (barring the cold).
3. Are you in love or have you been in love?
Always! Love is always the answer! :p Yes, I am in love with my husband whom I have been with for about 15 years now. So, love is present, not just past or future. I was conceived the exact same day he was born, so I followed him into this world. Now he gets to follow me lol.
4. What famous person do you admire?
Boy oh boy.
The Old Masters Jesus/Isa, Siddharta Gautama, Mohammed, Lao-Tzu, Abraham/Ibrahim, John the Baptist/Yahya, and Teachers Francis de Asissi, Teresa de Avila, Jetsun Milarepa, Hermes Trimegisto, Don Juan Matus.
The legendary favourites are Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, Benazir Bhutto, Jose Rizal, Aung San Suu Kyi, Nikolas Tesla, Martin Luther King, Helen Keller, Samuel Clemens (a.k.a. Mark Twain), C.S. Lewis, Harriet Tubman, Anne Frank, Irena Sendler, Fiódor Dostoievsky, Desmond Tutu, Harvey Milk, El Ché.
More recently: Thich Nhat Hanh, Malala Yousafzai, Maya Angelou, Gene Roddenberry, Eckhart Tolle, Oprah Winfrey, Audrey Hepburn, Muhammad Ali, Dame Stephanie Shirley, Sir Bob Geldof, Lady Di.
And one I just acquired today: Aminata Touré (Senegalese ex-president, called the Iron lady because of her strong anti-corruption policies and fight for women’s rights). Many more I’m not going to go into.
5. Favourite foods: I don’t eat meat any more but chicken yassa from The Gambia was my favourite African food besides monkey bread, mangoes from our garden and yams/sweet potatoes. Other things: cachupa (a Creole dish from Cape Verde), gambas al pil pil (Andalusian dish based on shrimps), Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte (German Black Forest cake), halo halo (Filipino dessert), Tarte aux Pommes à l' Alsacienne (Alsace apple cake), Mezzalune di funghi porcini con salsa alle canocchie (mushroom-stuffed pasta with squid sauce, I think I didn’t spell it right), Panna cotta (Italian desert based on sweetened cream), Vegetarian Tikka Masala, Tandoori prawns, quesadillas, pulpo a la gallega (octopus cooked Galician style), hummus, шопска салата (phonetical spelling is shopska salata) which is a Bulgarian salad, Australian buttermilk drunk straight out of the bottle with floating cream; New York apple pie and of course CHOCOLATE in any shape, flavor, form or origin – but I try to get fairtrade eco friendly products, because people, most of the cocoa comes from child slave labour in Africa, so at least with luxury products like chocolate I try to make sure that whoever be working in those fields plucking those cocoa beans for us privileged chocolate eaters, gets a “decent” living – so if you can, peeps, support Fairtrade chocolate!!! Not to mention, I would like trees planted back again so that my country of birth stops the transformation into desert wasteland.
I also like some Lebanese dishes that alas, I do not know the name of.
Here is a link about the modern slavery machine behind the chocolate industry, if anyone is interested - it’s a BBC documentary called The Dark Side of Chocolate - Modern Slavery.
Apparently from what I see in other posts I am supposed to give you some new questions, so here goes:
1) If you could meet one famous person tomorrow (dead or alive) for an hour, who would it be and why?
2) What languages do you speak/do you plan to learn? Why?
3) Do you have any brothers and sisters?
4) Do you think playing the Sims helps you feel fulfilled in areas that frustrate you in real life?
5) What’s the best thing and the worst thing about the Sims tumblr community?
6) Have you met (in person) any of your followers? Do you plan to?
7) What’s the funniest thing that happened to you lately?
8)Who’s in the same house as you right now?
9) What’s something I would never have guessed about you?
Sorry for writing so much, I just love too many things and too many people. By the way, I won’t break the rules but I will add +2 because 13 is my lucky number.
