here's the stupid baby acorns on the stupid invasive oak tree that some idiots decided to plant despite this being Georgia, where there are at least 35 different native oak species to choose from!!!

Here's the invasive acorns btw. And these are the ones I collected in August. It’s almost October, which means there will be more to collect before squirrels can spread them.

When you’re planting trees, especially for wildlife? Make sure they’re native ones. It’s not difficult.

Normally when collecting acorns I would make sure to leave some behind for animals but this is an invasive species, so I will be collecting every single one I find specifically so that squirrels can’t get them and plant them.

At some point I’ll try chopping them up to kill the seed, and see if squirrels will eat them that way.

if you post observations of sawtooth oak trees in North America please for the love of nature, comment in the notes section if you think it's wild. If you know it's planted, or think it's planted, please mark it captive. Please. Yes, they are escaping cultivation and becoming invasive in some areas, but there are a lot more of them purposefully planted by people than escaping, and it is excruciatingly important that trees /purposefully planted by people/ are marked as such so that in like 20 years or so we can look at an area and go "okay, who's fucking fault was this?" and find the parent tree that started the bullshit.

99% of Sawtooth oak observations uploaded to iNaturalist in North America are planted. Most of them very obviously so. Some of them less obviously so, but it's still a known fact if you ask people who live or work there.

This goes for all species, obviously, you should be marking them correctly whenever you know they're planted, but it goes double for the invasive ones!
