This canvas that thou here see'st stretched,
It was of the great Wimsey sketched.
Wherein the painter had a strife,
with Nature to outdo the life.
For if he'd somehow caught the "thwack"
that sounded when old Flim had a crack
at bat, the painting would surely spoil
All else that e'er was daubed in oil.
Since he could not, oh lover of Cricket,
Remember, instead, his defense of this wicket.
Lord Peter Death Bredon Wimsey, 1890-1918, B.A. '12
