So I'm not good at making posts about issues but can we direct our attention to Florida rn trying to pass a bill that prevents trans youth athletes from playing sports with the gender they identify with? Its Florida House bill HB1475 and Senate bill SB2012. It focuses more on 'biological sex' and literally uses the hormone levels in the youth athletes to determine whether they can play on the women's teams or not. The representative that pushed this bill forward(more like rushed it) blatantly said this is to target transwomen. Its discriminatory and pushed forward by transphobic people who are disregarding all science and LGBT groups on this matter.
They are hearing this bill on Tuesday, April 13th and another one on Wednesday, the next day. It passed enough times to get to the Florida House which scares me enough to think they will push it through into law. Can we please do something about this. The main representative that pushed this bill forward to begin with is actually refusing to listen to LGBT voices. She had hours long discussions with groups telling her there is no reason to do this and it hurts children a lot more than it will ever help them. She completely ignored them and did not listen and walked out of that meeting pushing the bill harder than ever.
Please make a ruckus about this cause this bill isnt even on my local news. It feels like no one knows about this except for my community action groups sending out emails to us. They say to email the entire Florida House and Senate committee speaking out against these bills. Florida Coalition for Transgender Liberation is also asking for recorded testimonies that they can use as an alternative to a public testimony in a committee hearing at the captiol.
