#KDRAMAWOMENSWEEK | March 1 — 8, 2019
[alternatively: a week and one day to talk about and make things for women you appreciate in celebration of International Women’s Month]
Day One: Monster Girls
Literal monsters—ghosts and gumihos, witches and mermaids, aliens and women with super strength; or metaphorical monsters—women bent on vengeance, women who wreak havoc, women who aren’t nice and amenable, women full of self-loathing.
Day Two: Transformation
A character who surprised you with their growth, a character who changed over the course of the show, a character who went on a journey of self-discovery; or an actress who shows versatility in the characters she plays without it being based on her styling.
Day Three: The Narrator
A character who is the undisputed ‘teller’ of their story. Through voice-over, through being the unreliable narrator, through other forms of narration - as long as you left the drama thinking ‘this is ___’s drama’.
Day Four: Favorite Daughter
Eldest daughters who take on all the responsibilities; middle daughters who are always ignored; babies of the family who get away with murder; daughters-in-law.
Day Five: Favorite Debut
An actress whose debut you loved—you saw something in her that made you want her to do more projects, made you root for her; her debut stood out among other performances; her debut changed the landscape of kdramas.
Or a favorite actress who debuted 15+ years ago and is still working.
Day Six: Community/Character Actress
Women who’ve worked together on more than one project, i.e. actresses who are in 2 or more shows together and writers who work with the same actresses or directors in their shows.
Or an actress who’s known for playing a certain type of character, and you always look forward to seeing her play it again.
Day Seven: Speak
A character who speaks up or stands for a cause even when it makes her the odd one out; a character who is a loudmouth who talks and swears a lot; a character who breaks out of her shyness or timidity to say something at a crucial moment.
Or an actress who’s spoken about social or political topics, or has said something that moves you.
Day Eight: Favorite Ending or Free Day
A character who was treated right by the narrative in the end or free choice.
Please also feel free to be inspired by the prompts from previous years ( 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018).
Please tag your posts #kdramawomensweek and/or @undergroundkdrama so they are easier to find, admire, and reblog.
Please hop over to @minyoungah and give your thanks, she made this happen last year and she’s making it happen again this year.
