Senate redistricting plan would put Horry County in new district - Breaking News - TheSunNews.com
According to a congressional redistricting plan drawn up by the Senate GOP Caucus, the map appears to make a federal run tougher for presumed candidate Alan Clemons, a Republican state senator from Myrtle Beach. The 1st District would stretch from Charleston up the coast, encompassing Horry County. That would appear to keep U.S. Rep. Tim Scott, a newly elected Republican, safe. In the process, however, it appears to derail plans by Clemons or other potential candidates from the area like Myrtle Beach S.C. Rep. Thad Viers.

A redistricting plan released by state House members on May 18 would place the new Seventh Congressional District in the Pee Dee and along the Grand Strand. If left intact, the proposal would remove Marion, Florence and portions of Georgetown County from Congressman Jim Clyburn's Sixth District. The plan also moves Allendale, Hampton and Jasper counties from Congressman Joe Wilson's Second Congressional District, placing them into the Sixth.
