WeightGurus versus Withings
I bought a WeightGurus scale on Groupon earlier this year because, you know, new year blah blah. It’s well-reviewed and the price point from the Groupon deal was muy excelente. I got it for under $30!
I don’t subscribe to the school of “The Scale Determines My Worth” anymore but I do want to see where I am. I believe that my clothes are the better indicator of how I look. I still fit into a 16 even if I gained twenty pounds! How crazy is that.
I’m being more intentional about food and exercise, so when a Withings Smart Body Analyzer became available to me for 35% off, I jumped at the opportunity.
It was easy to set up and link to my other tracking apps and HealthKit, but imagine my disappointment when the numbers came up. And I’m not talking about the mocking three digits of my weight, nor my BMI, nor my Fat percentage. I’m talking about the DIFFERENCE OF NINE POUNDS between my WeightGuru scale and my fancy air quality, internet-connected Withings.
I just went for my annual physical the other day and my weight was the same on my WeightGuru. My Withings, however, said I was nine pounds lighter. Nine. Pounds. Like I lost nine pounds in three days.
Glad I got it for 35% off because it doesn’t hurt as much that I’m returning it. What a disappointment.
Before I put it back in the box, I noted that my body is 42.5% fat and my BMI is 34.8. Not sure if those make sense together. (Should one or the other be higher?) But I will forego the high tech analytics for a more accurate reading of my weight.
Sheesh.
I think it’s a sign that I really should be less concerned with fat percentage and BMI — for now — and simply get back on being mindful with eating wisely and moving consistently.
