Losing the open weave pattern is a new lesson that I didn’t really want to learn today, but I guess I don’t have a choice.
It didn’t really shrink, it just closed up the holes. It is very soft though and will look lovely on someone’s table or dresser.
I’ve posted the conundrum on Ravelry and the general consensus was not to dry it in the dryer, but to let it dry more slowly after wet finishing. I was assured that blocking is not necessarily required.
Live and learn, I guess.
