So...
Henry Cavill makes a damn good looking Wolverine right?
I swear this man is collecting roles like dragon balls.
How is it that the ONE PIECE anime is getting a remake when it's not even finished running?
Why can't the Inuyasha anime get a remake? This show would be amazing if it were given a remake where the filler episodes were removed, the missing chapters added and the animation done consistently throughout!
I know, different companies, but I still want to gripe here.
There's creators still in the fandom, still creating the things that they enjoy, regardless of HnY. Those that left could have used this show as their excuse to slip out the back door to explore other interests. Real life has taken back over, and there may be no energy left for fandom activity. From what I've seen, people don't linger for long with new media anymore. It's all about how quickly the source can be absorbed, a mad dash to blow through fic and art, and then they're on to the next popular interest.
I don't understand why a creator would need an excuse to leave a fandom? Unless they are offering commissions no one is telling them what to create.
I do agree that there is a 'TikTok' generation of people who consume media rapidly and then get excited for the next big thing. But that's not who really made up the bulk of the fandom.
Inuyasha is a 20 year old anime with an even longer running manga. I only got to see the fandom explosion here on Tumblr due to The Final Act, but despite the show going off air and the manga completing, there remained a modest dedicated fan base.
Then Hanyou no Yashahime/princess half demon came along and at the beginning there was so much excitement! However you know how that story ended, instead of a renaissance that people were hoping for, we got an apocalypse.
Despite it all I still hold onto some hopes that the fandom will heal and these dedicated fans return or new ones arrive. My post before was to put out a message that there are still people here determined to carry on as if the apocalypse never happened.
Because Inuyasha isn't just an anime. It's part of people's childhoods, it's in their fondest memories, it was an escape from reality, it was part of their favorite memes (AMV's as well) and it helped them find new friends - in my case it helped me find a girlfriend.
It would be really sad to see it die out.
My opinion here, but one of the reasons why Henry Cavill is so well liked is because he's a true to life nerd. It also helps that he's hot and acts like a dork, but for me it's the fact that he grew up on comic books and video games. Losing him as superman and Geralt of Rivia is going to be a big blow to those franchises.
And a boost for Amazon potentially. I don't know much about Warhammer 40k, the only tabletop rpg I got into was DnD for a bit. But now I am willing to look into it thanks to Cavill. If only to support another fellow nerd.
Are Towa and Setsuna Mary Sues?
First off: What is a Mary sue?
Wiki’s definition: A Mary Sue is a type of fictional character, usually a young woman, who is portrayed as unrealistically free of weaknesses.
In my opinion: a Mary Sue is a character who is written so poorly, that everything is either given to them or dismissed because: 1: They are just awesome! 2: The writer just can’t be bothered to explain why they are awesome.
But are the twins Mary Sues? Their story begins in the forest, dumped at the foot of a tree with a promise from Jaken that they would be raised well. We learn later they do not remember Jaken, they don’t know who their mother is, they don’t know who has been feeding them, clothing them, teaching them how to speak. Nor do they know of the deadbeat father that couldn’t find a door step to leave them on. Yet somehow they live life happily alone in the woods.
Fast forward to them being separated by a forest fire and then reunited in the modern era. You learn that Towa, the modern twin, was taking martial arts and kendo classes while also being asked to keep her powers secret. Meanwhile Setsuna, the feudal twin, is a demon slayer who was also cursed by a butterfly that stole her sleep.
You also see that Towa is so good at her secret demon powers that she can turn her broken ‘magical’ sword into a light saber. Not to mention other powerful demon attacks like the dragon strike. Meanwhile Setsuna is completely unaffected by the fact she can’t sleep. In fact, she doesn’t even seem to want to deal with the butterfly.
The reason why? They are just awesome. No other explanation is given.
Why does this make them Mary Sues? If Hanyou no Yashahime had been a stand alone show with all original characters set in a completely new world, the twins would not be so out of character.
However this show is a spin-off of a world that clearly set the rules and gave us an example of a Hanyou. So when these new characters bend and break the pre-established rules set in this same world without any real explanation as to why they can do it, then it looks very Mary Sue-ish.
In fact, it’s Inuyasha and Kagome who are the ones that make Towa and Setsuna look like Mary Sues. Just compare their back stories and character development to see for yourself. Remember: In the OG series Inuyasha and Kagome are 15 and 14 respectively.
Meanwhile Kirinmaru should have been far more powerful than Naraku, yet he was nerfed for every fight with Towa and Setsuna. Why? To skip over a huge opportunity to develop Kirinmaru’s character and just claim he’s holding back. Because the twins are just awesome.
So are Towa and Setsuna Mary Sues? Yes. Why? Because instead of being given a path of discovery or a reluctant hero’s journey the entire show focuses on how special the twins are. Going as far as punishing other characters that could easily outshine them. While never really giving much of any reason or explanation of how or why.
Mary Sues are just awesome and that is all that a poor writer will feel is necessary to say about them.
If I offer a fact or an opinion that makes sense in response to something you've said and the first thing you do is call me an anti - then you're a dumbass.
I've said this before: I'm fine with sessrin as long as Rin is clearly depicted as a consenting adult!
My problem is that Hanyo no Yashahime fails to do this. What's worse, there are perverts and sick minded people using this ship to create a safe space within the fandom to enjoy other minor x adult ships. One of their favorite tactics is to spread misinformation to encourage a shipwar.
I'm not stopping people from enjoying sessrin, nor am I asking people to get involved. I'm just saying you should ship responsibly and be aware not everyone speaking out is an anti.
WAS ANYONE GONNA TELL ME THERE WAS A DRIZZT MOVIE?!
And just when the darkness of one fandom ( yashahime ) threatens to swallow all that is loved, a beacon of light shines on the horizon!
Please don't suck! I really loved those books! Do that Drow Elf some justice!
