Scenario 40 : Robin notices all of your discreet glances for Sabo/the way you look at Sabo (Robin POV)
Sabo x GN!Reader // Words : 1.4K // No warnings (no beta reader), mostly canon.
Even if she never showed it, Robin was grateful the revolutionaries helped her leave Tequila Wolf and took her with them to their main secret base. When it happened, she was careful and wary – old habits die hard – but it changed the moment her eyes met yours.
*
About twenty years ago, when her native island was blown up by the government, Robin was researched, and she couldn’t take care of the last thing she loved and was left of her past life: you. You were just an innocent toddler, unknown of the government, so she took the hard decision to let you to an orphanage. A few years after she came back to meet you, she did a few times until she got compromised and had to disappear again. Only this time, you knew she was still alive and were determined to find her.
It wasn’t in your plan to meet Sabo, to befriend him nor to become his right hand in the Revolutionary Army. However, their purpose and fights were close to yours, and you knew it would help you in the research of your sister. Only Sabo and Dragon were aware of your goal and identity and neither of them ever objected with it if your job was done.
Over the years, information about Robin were hard to find until the day she met and joined the Strawhat crew.
“Sabo, look at it! It’s her!” You showed him the cover of the newspaper about the Strawhats and Robin’s name being included.
“Do you want to go meet her? We could make it to her if you’d like.” Sabo sat beside you and leant on you, so your arms are fully pressed against each other. You turned your head to him, eyebrows raised. “What?”
“I didn’t think you would be proposing something like this. We have so much work to be done…” You pouted a bit as you watched the newspaper again. “We don’t even know where they’re going next. Let’s wait until they reach the Archipelago of Sabaody and met them at the Fish-man Island?”
“Sounds clever to me.” He watched the article too then you. “You seem concerned.”
“Concerned of?”
“Meeting her after all this time. I mean, you haven’t had any contact with her for what? Ten years?”
“Actually, eight.”
“My point is everything’s gonna be alright. She did all of this to protect you so she must love you more than anything.” The blond boy gave you a push with his shoulder which made you smile.
“I guess she did.” You gave him a push back. “How would you react if you discover a long-lost sibling?”
“I would I know? I’m an only child.” The both of you laughed.
*
“Robin...Robin!”
You didn’t expect to see her after everything that happened… You learnt about how her crew was forcefully split up by you had no clue about the direction she took. She seemed fine for the most part yet very distrustful. But her body language relaxed when she heard you.
“(Name)? Is that you?” It was like she forgot everything else. Robin walked straight to you. She hesitated a bit but eventually took your face in her hands. “You’ve grown up so much…” Her eyes were watery just like yours, but you couldn’t see her tears fell that she took you in her arms. “I missed you so much, (Name)…”
“I missed you too, Robin…”

But all the news weren’t as good as Robin’s return in your life. While your relationship with your sister was flourishing, the one with Sabo wasn’t sunny.
Not that you quarrelled or anything, but your best friend remembered his lost memory and Ace’s death and Luffy’s near death experience were a shock for him. You were there when he reminded, you could still remember the feeling of your heart breaking in pieces over Sabo’s cries. “How would you react if you discover a long-lost sibling?” You remembered asking him this a few months ago and felt stupid.
“Sabo? Can I come in?”
It’s been like this for days. Sabo spend most of his days locked up in his room without giving you an answer. Just like the former times, you let the warm drink you prepared him before his door and left.
*
“I don’t know what to do to help him getting better.”
“What makes you think you have to do something?”
“Because he is my best friend obviously.”
“It that so.”
Robin was sitting on her bed, reading, when you came in. You had laid with her, putting your head on her thighs. She didn’t complain and even started brushing your hair with her fingers, her book abandoned next to her. It was just a few days, but it felt like you’ve known each other for more than that. Maybe it was the special link between siblings…
Maybe it was the reason why Robin saw what you have been hiding so well.
Maybe it was the reason why she knew what you felt for the blond revolutionary boy.
“I am sure you’ll be the first one to know when he feels ready to come out again.”
“How can you be so sure about it?”
“I just know.”
Even thought Robin didn’t get to see Sabo a lot since her arrival, she saw and heard things. She noticed the small ‘thank you for the drink/the food” or even the flower he left on your door on the rare time he went out. She saw a few pictures of the team here and there and how you were never without each other on every of them. She heard about your successful missions together, how you couldn’t stay apart for more than a day. It made it clearer to understand the sorrow in your eyes when you walked by his door.
He was your best friend, yet you felt so much more for him. You loved him.
She wasn’t sure about Sabo’s feelings until a night she saw something she shouldn’t have.
*
It was nighttime. The night shift was keeping an eye open while the rest of the revolutionaries present on the base were resting in the quarters. You were alone in the canteen, cooling down from a long day training with Robin, Dragon and Koala and reading the last newspaper over an infusion.
The door of the canteen opened before you. You expected Koala or maybe Dragon – the man would often come for a coffee, even at night – but it was Sabo. He just came closer, silently. He sat astride on the bench and put his forehead on your shoulder.
You didn’t say a word. You felt like it was the best thing to do.
You had noticed how Sabo’s face was pale and had drawn features by the tiredness. He mustn’t have slept a lot lately. His beautiful curls were even messier than usual, and he had his blanket covering his back just like a cape would.
Then he straightened and looked at you.
“Thank you.” His voice was low, but you heard it. You shocked your head, features confused. “Thank you for waiting for me to be ready.” His voice cracked a bit. The cries must have broken it.
“Oh… Are you sure you’re ready? You can take your time. I’ll wait for you as long as you need, you know.”
“Actually, there’s one last thing I’d like to do before moving on.” You kept silence, waiting for him to tell. “I’d like to… pay a visit to Ace. To his final resting place. And I’d like for you to come with me. If you agree.”
“Of course. You know I’d follow you everywhere. I won’t let you go anywhere without me.” You lifted your hand to push back a strand of blond lock falling in his eyes. “You won’t get ride of me so easily.”
For the first time in days, you heard Sabo’s laugh.
“I don’t plan on getting ride of you. Never.” It was his turn to push back your hair but to press a kiss to your forehead.
“Then? When are we leaving?”
“Whenever you’re ready.”
Just as Dragon was found of coffee at night, Robin was about tea. And she didn’t miss a thing about what happened in the canteen that night. It was cute. Just like the small note you left on her bed telling you would be back in a few days. Just like the pure, sincere, and oblivious love Sabo and you had for each other.
Well, she had two years ahead of her to make it obvious.
