Robin was never alone
When Ted decorates the house to cheer Robin up on Christmas
From the very beginning, it was pretty clear that Robin never wanted to have children. She was always scared of commitments and having babies. In the episode as well, when her doubts about getting pregnant turn out to be false, she celebrates it with Barney but the next day, when her doctor tells her that she can never be pregnant, we see the hidden part of Robin that might have thought of having one someday.
There’s a difference between not wanting a thing by choice and never being able to get it. Even if Robin had mentioned a million times about never giving birth to babies, a part of her did see a possibility of it happening in the future. She knew how her friends would react and decided not to tell anyone. When Ted tries to cheer her up by inviting her to Ohio, she becomes furious at him. There were two grown-up kids in the scenes, leading us all to assume everything was alright in the end, but that was not the case.
After her walk and some alone time, she returns home with the opening of Highway to Hell and some beautiful Christmas lights, all arranged by Ted. He knew exactly what she needed and didn’t even ask what was bothering her. Robin isn’t someone who would open up a lot, but Ted managed to give her the space she needed and the happiness she deserved.
‘There’s one thing Robin never was. She was never alone.’
