It's pretty literal in the sense that I ship myself with characters!! It varies in seriousness from person to person. I am a ficto (fictosexual) selfshipper and I fancy characters as my actual partners. For some people it can just be a fun hobby, coping mechanism or serious relationships through spirituality or simply feeling. I'm somewhere on the aroace spectrum and find more comfort and fulfillment in fictional bonds, but that wont be the same from person to person!
