Quick sketch
When I was in grade school I was taught to worry that I would be offered highly illegal drugs (D. A. R. E.), while I was on fire (Stop. Drop. Roll.), and being kidnapped by a man in a trench coat that may or may not have puppies/kittens/candy in his van (Stranger Danger). Even then we knew it was unlikely that these things were unlikely.
My eight year old niece knows none of those programs. But she knows when curl into a ball and be quiet vs. when to run and how to activate a door safety device if needed. They practice so often that she’s not even worried anymore. She thinks it’s just a thing that will happen eventually.
It sickens and depresses me that as a child I was told what to do when engulfed in flames caused by the crack pipe my abductor offered and she has to know what to do if someone starts shooting at her school.
The new normal sucks.
I'm going to have 10 hours of art and 8 hours (+1 after school) of history this week 😭

Need a lesson to use with your kids for homeschooling? Supply and demand. The demand for gas has gone down, so the supply has gone up. The demand for toilet paper has gone up, so the supply has gone down. The demand for vacant airplane seats has gone down, so the supply has gone up. And the demand for face masks has gone up, so the supply has gone down.
what spring semester 2018 taught me.
1. The unnecssary amount of pressure you put on yourself is ONLY hurting you.
2. Making straight A’s should NEVER be a goal.
3. Calculate your grade throughout the semester. You might think you have a really low grade when you don't.
4. Make your own notes and study guides. It’s always nice when a classmate makes some and wants to share, but you won’t process/remember the information as well by studying their notes.
5. Having one day off during the week will be a saving grace.
6. Don’t take three classes back to back without having a lunch break in between. Because you will be hangry during your last class and look at your teacher like 😑.

Today for a high ability guidance lesson about teamwork at school we did one of those escape the room type puzzles but instead of escaping the room we had to open a box with like 7 locks on it in 30 minutes. By the time we had 30 seconds left we only had two locks left and we were freaking out a lot, this is when we realized that we could pry open one side of the box and stick a hand inside. So we figured out who had the tiniest hands and they stuck their hands in while the rest of us held the box open and they got the paper. We had the paper with 15 seconds left on the clock. If that isn't teamwork, I don't know what is.
