About Educational Interpreting
NY State Education Department is in the process of designing the regulations and it is expected that the certification will require interpreters to have least an AAS in Educational Interpreting, passing of the EIPA-Written Exam, an EIPA score of at least 3.0 as well as passing of some teacher certification state tests.
Interpretek’s educational interpreting screening and hiring practices exceed current NY State Education Department standards. These standards ensure seamless coverage during any transition periods after regulations are passed.
The first educational interpreting credentials were developed in 1991 by Boys Town National Research Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. The Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment ® (EIPA) scores the interpreter on a scale of 1.0 to 5.0 (www.classroominterpreting.org).
An educational interpreter with an EIPA score of 4.0 or greater can apply to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf for National Certification credentials, Edu: K-12 (www.rid.org).
Interpretek’s educational interpreting services cost significantly less than sending a Deaf student to a school for the Deaf. The average cost to a school district to send a student to a school for the Deaf exceeds $140,000 per school year.

My name is Lynn Weissman, and I am a Producer, Cinematographer, and Editor. I launched my video company Weisswoman Productions back in 2001. I have been shooting, editing, and producing documentary videos about schools, education, and other topics since then. These video projects have won festival, competition, and grant awards; aired on public and cable television, and screened nationwide and in Canada.
I love mixing the art and science of video production to tell a good story. I get to be both a geek and an empathetic human being, continually learning about video technology and about people. Whether I'm shooting behind the lens, editing, or producing, I have the remarkable privilege of bearing witness to many extraordinary stories and events, and meeting extraordinary people - and the helping to tell their stories.
