hey, do you know what was caroline’s reaction on bobby’s death and how she was in the moths following this unhappy event ?? ty, love ur blog
Thank you! Caroline and John both were incredibly close to Bobby. He was the closest thing they had to a father after Jack was killed. He really made them a priority. In the book “The Kennedy Heirs” by J. Randy Taraborrelli, Caroline’s reactions to both her father’s and uncle’s deaths are detailed...
In 1969 Jackie put Caroline in therapy. According to Jackie, “She’s just so unhappy. She walks around all the time with her little hands clenched in fists; she seems so angry at the world.” The psychologists she saw told Jackie they believed Caroline was experiencing an identity crisis. She was old enough to understand what was happening and it, obviously, had a greatly negative impact on her emotionally, but also her sense of self was affected. They felt that the loss of her father at such a young age irreversibly shifted her view of the world as well as her view of her own mortality. Bobby’s death just a few years later compounded this. Jackie would eventually stop sending Caroline to therapy because she felt it was forcing Caroline to stay in the grief instead of working past it.
