@schvarzschild: wouldn't you like to meet a handsome young man?
The response is automatic. A wrinkling of her nose, a roll of her eyes. Katherine's cornered the market on handsome young men, as far as Ana's concerned. Katherine's appetite has always been the most monstrous part of her. Ana wishes she was talking about blood.
“I'm sure it must be hard, for an unpleasant woman such as yourself to attempt to enjoy your own company. But unlike you, I have no such problems.” The problem is her mother. Or it's the men themselves. Or really it's just the uncomfortable sensation of being known, being looked at. It's anything, it's everything. Ana doesn't know how to play the game without staking her heart on it so she just doesn't play. “And young men? I find most of them to be so... dull.”
