I could yap about my two OCs weird queer platonic relationship alllll day like okay they’re on a spaceship and one of them is a human navigator and the other one is an android science officer and she’s aroace and went to research his planet and they became besties and he relies on her and she relies on him and they’re protective of each other and he has a girlfriend who is totally chill with whatever they have going on and people think they’re dating but eventually it probably stops embarrassing them because even though they’re not they LOVE each other in their own ways

Hiiii who’s your favorite OC and why?

OH MY GOODNESS THANK YOU FOR ASKING. wow great question.

I think right now my favorite oc is marie de la rosa because of her dynamic with both her mentor, d'var and the rest of the sorcerers in the story. for context, she was secretly working undercover with d'var alada and another sorcerer, smithia lealani, to smugge information in and out of the milky way galaxy (the galaxy is blocked off from the rest of the universe with dark magic, which is dark matter + magic, the only way to leave is by using dark magic, and d'var alada was formerly the vessel for the god of dark matter so is able to use it and get them out of there). upon d'var's death, d'var forces her to drink her blood to transfer the dark magic to her body so someone is still able to bring the other sorcerers out of and into the galaxy.

because of this, out of the main group of milky way sorcerers she has both the most complicated relationship with d'var's death and the most complicated relationship with her own role as a sorcerer and in the greater war, as she is the only exit or entry point for anyone trying to get into the milky way and she was given absolutely no choice in the matter. her previous strengths and passions regarding magic do not matter, as her primary importance is suddenly being a vehicle of transport, all while she has to grieve d'var with no one to understand what she's going through.

for reference, d'var is the closest relationship she's had in her life. d'var was a mentor, friend, spymaster, and accomplice. d'var is the former vessel for the god dark matter,who created dark magic by mixing magic with dark matter and violating a fundamental law of the universe which is the seperation of magic and mundane. dark magic, when used by mortals, deteriorates the body (the speed depending upon how often it's used) so in being chosen as d'var's successor marie is also handed her death warrant. to do her job (get sorcerers in and out of the milky way) she is causing her own death, and again, had absolutely no choice.

between her and the other sorcerer who worked with d'var, marie was generally also given a lot more of the brunt of d'var's anger (which was a valid trauma response to be fair) and most of the responsibility for what d'var's missions had set out to be before she died. this leaves marie having to reckon with her grief for d'var as her closest friend but also her anger and disgust at the fact that she (and smithia) alone had to deal and cope with the actual woman and not the ideal that is grieved by most of the other sorcerers.

What are the Observers in your story "A star filled oyster"? Are the humans from an organization? An alien species? Imagine you wake up one day and you see an observer in your room. That'd be awkward.

Observers are an alien species! It's unknown where their homeworld is or how they appear on long-term space faring vessels, but they do. They're not naturally Humanoid, they just appear that way to blend in. You can identify them by their eyes and the fact that they all wear a certain insignia and won't tell anyone what it means beyond that they're an Observer. They refuse to tell anyone what their mission is beyond "Observation" which is how they got the moniker.

Observers don't experience emotion or any sensation that isn't pain - the latter is a fairly recent evolutionary[?] development (to keep them from getting killed). Some Observers will mimic emotion in certain situations to encourage more information (EX: Pretending to cry to see what would happen). They don't engage much interpersonally with others and most have taken to seeing them more as living recording devices than people.

Most. Also, the likelihood of waking up to an Observer being in your room is low but NOT zero if you're on a long-term space faring vessel. Try telling 'em to shoo!

While serving in the interplanetary military together the two of them became friends, fell in love, and got married. On one particular deployment their ship crashed leaving Ridley disabled, and the two of them retired. Now the two of them are running a restaurant and managing civilian life together.
