Things I learned today #2
We saw a very bright red but slow moving shooting star tonight, and it turns out, it's called a FIREBALL meteor and The American Meteor Society would like it if we could report it to them. Here's their website on this subject: https://www.amsmeteors.org/fireballs/faqf/
If you're out watching the moon, or maybe the Perseids Meteor Shower (August 12-13), and you see something that's as bright as Venus in the morning or evening, and it ends with a flash, take note of these things they want to know:
"This will include things such as brightness, length across the sky, color, and duration (how long did it last), it is most helpful of the observer will mentally note the beginning and end points of the fireball with regard to background star constellations, or compass direction and angular elevation above the horizon"
