if you think microbiologists are germaphobes you’d be dead wrong. i have seen my primary investigator eat an almond off the floor. i will eat food off the floor. fuck the five second rule. the bacteria is extra protein.
ok so i saw this post (go queen btw i support your princess time) and a RUSH of memories came back to me that i feel bear repeating. i had completely forgotten about this until just now.
TL;DR: my roommate in sophomore year of college was such a bitchass liar that i had to set up a microbiological experiment to prove he wasn't cleaning the bathroom.
be me (or, be scout, i guess. i would have never come up with this shit)
have roommate that you share a bathroom with. have a rotating weekly schedule about who cleans the bathroom.
the bathroom is never clean on his weeks to clean the bathroom.
you confront him about it. he lies. you know he is lying because every week that he says he cleans, there is a pinkish reddish stain (characteristic of the opportunistic pathogen S. marcescens) around the drains and under the shampoo bottles.
you use an expo marker to mark places on the tub, toilet and sink that would easily come off if he were to scrub it. he lies still. you show him the evidence. he says this is duplicitous (true! lying is also duplicitous but i digress)
fine. ok. whatever. next time it is your turn to clean the bathroom, you bleach EVERYTHING within an inch of its life. you have to open the windows to get the bleach fumes out its that bad.
you wait one week.
you ask your roommate if he has cleaned the bathroom. he says yes.
you boil a potato slice, and wearing gloves you stole from the micro lab class you're in, swab under the shampoo bottles in a sterile field you DIY with a lighter. you inoculate the potato slice with the swap and seal it in a ziploc.
again, you wait. the colonies of mold and bacteria that bloom and grow in a rainbow of colors that the gods blessed us with eyes to see are indescribable.
you show him the potato slice, still bagged for your safety.
the bathroom is cleaned every week till the end of the semester.
LOLZ INTRO POST I KEEP EDITING THIS
re donations / mutual aid - i don't have a job and i have accidentally reblogged too many scams even after checking for legitimacy so i generally will not interact with that.
my name is chrome! i use it/its, pup/pupself, the dog/that dog. or he/they if you're boringggggg or cis.
i would probably have CL/CZ according to humans, but i still mostly post in the therian and endel tags because ive been there so long lolz. i am physically a dog. ive had dog DNA my whole life yet it only rly started expressing dog proteins rather than human proteins in 2023.
my defining traits are being long-winded and yet completely mute.
in my 20s in human yrs
barkz at you !!! hey hai !!! :3
DNI - this blog is run by an endo (probably, who give a shit) system. if you send me syscourse, pro contact stuff or bigotry, i will assume you are having a hard time in your personal life and will send you a picture of my cat, brain stew*.
you have free will. use it wisely.
*this is an exploitable mechanic. you can send me fake hate mail for cat pics.
moar infoz and tag system under the cut !!
hey look I found you in my chem homework!!! woahhh!!! :0

aww thank you for thinking of me and your kind words!
by the way if yall are curious :
chromium is a transition metal and cytochrome-c a mitochondrial protein found in the electron transport chain.
the prefix “Chrom-“ refers to color, and both chromium and cytochrome-c have colors to them!
chromium can be a lot of different colors depending on its oxidation state*, and when cyt-c was first isolated it had a reddish-brown color due to its iron content.
basically, when both things were isolated (“discovered”) for the first time everyone observing was like holy shit, that’s colors ☝️
*Cr is not the only transition metal that can do this for the record. vanadium also does this, and we get a lot of pigments from metals in different oxidation states (lead and titanium can make white, arsenic can get you green, and copper can give u greens and blues. iron gives you reds and browns! mercury can give you grey/black. unforchies a lot of these are toxic as fuuuuck but most pigments from metals have safer alternatives by now) <- gross oversimplification, this article that i swear is not a rickroll this time can do a better job of explaining it, tho it’s a bit technical and i would scroll down to the part with the descriptions of the different metal-based pigments.
edit 5 hours later: arsenic is not a transition metal, i was not reading the way i wrote that well
i hope something good happens to you today!

"ouuhhhh youre asexual??? like bacteria???? LMAO LOLZ CRINGE FAIL CAUGHT IN 4K"
buddy i dont know how to tell you this but bacteria have more sex than you or i EVER will.
i have a little kandi bacteria on my desk that i put in fucked up situations (usually squashing and kneading it) whenever im feeling stressed in lab/about my experimetns. it reminds me that im not a bad scientist, sometimes science is just bad and difficult. and then i crunch its lipopolysaccharide layer and throw it against the wall. it understadns this as a form of affection btw.
shakin like a leaf in lab bc i can’t open the autoclave and i forgot to crack the lids of my media containers so what if it explodes
