Having just looked up the submission cost to the journal Ecology, I will be printing out 100 copies of my manuscript and handing it out on street corners instead of traditionally publishing. Much more cost effective and more people will read it that way.

LJS 29 -  Extratto da un libro de razza da cavalli del re Ferrante vechio de Aragona

This is a treatise in 84 chapters on the anatomy, medical treatment, physical appearance, breeding, training, and care of horses. The manuscript claims to be an abridgment of an otherwise unknown work by King Ferdinand I of Naples, an avid horseman. It was probably written in Venice, in 1541 CE. A nice reading, if you care about horses (and if you read Italian!).

LJS 23 De natura rerum, written in Northern France or Flanders, ca. 1250-1275.

This manuscript contains gatherings from Books VII-XX of Thomas's general introduction to science, including parts of his sections on fish, insects and invertebrates, trees, cosmology and astronomy, herbs, springs, gems, wind and clouds, the four elements, stars, and eclipses. One of the earliest known copies of this text. Notes in a modern German hand on front flyleaves and occasionally in margins.

LJS 216 Tractatum de spera ... etc. Possibly written in Paris 1256-1270.

Collection of three scientific works, nearly contemporary with the life of the author: one work on cosmology and astronomy, one on arithmetic, and one on the division of time according to the movements of the sun and moon. This leaf contains an illuminated diagram depicting the zones of the earth.

This image from LJS 215, Scientific miscellany, has a gorgeous initial U in the upper left corner, with the face of a rather grumpy looking man drawn into the letter. The range of the contents of this scientific text, written in Middle French and Latin by Imbert Fentryer in France in 1511, are broad. 

The text contains a compendium of astrological charts, astronomical and astrological tables, treatises on astronomy and geometry, instructions for making dyes and pigments, and information about medical preparations.

LJS 216

This diagram is taken from Tractatum de Spera (LJS 216), a manuscript most likely used at an early university that features a collection of three scientific works. This particular diagram is a depiction of a total lunar eclipse, showing the specific positioning of the sun and moon during this spectacular celestial event.
