SCIENTIFIC MONKEY (UK): Scientific Monkey is a Manchester, UK based DJ, whose music is inspired from the musical genres – Soul (Progressive / Nu / Neo / Ol Skool), Hip-Hop (Conscious Hip-Hop), Beats, Brokenbeat, House, Nu Jazz, Jazz, Rare Groove, and R & B (Ol Skool R& B). From the age of 15 Scientific Monkey spent most of his Saturday’s chasing down and collecting music from Manchester’s import specialists – Expansion Records, Fat City Records, & Slam Jamz. In the mid to late 90’s, Scientific Monkey was involved in the Manchester Underground Pirate Radio Scene, under his previous alias “Bryn’s Aquarian Soul”, where he had weekly 3-hour night-time slots on Love Energy FM and Buzz FM.
Between 2001 - 2003, a joint promoter / club venture with one of Manchester’s best underground Soul / R&B DJ’s Owen D, was formed called “Lush Entertainment”. This partnership, held a very successful monthly residency at Manchester’s Up-Market venue “Lime Bar” on the Quays, which attracted clubbers from all over the UK. Other club nights Scientific Monkey has been honoured to be involved in are; Eric Lau’s – “Paused’ (London), E Double D & Jayson Wynters – “Soulfisticated” (Birmingham, UK), and Essay Kidane’s – “Got Soul’ (London).
For the past few years Scientific Monkey has been banging out Mixtapes covering different Underground Groove Genres (Progressive Nu / Neo Soul, Conscious Hip-Hop, Soulful Beats, Ol’ Skool R & B, Rare Grooves etc etc), on average one mixtape per month. These were all originally uploaded on Soundcloud, and were receiving over a thousand hits per day globally, but due to the recent change of SC’s music policy have now been removed and are in the process of being re-uploaded onto hearthis.at
