Sen Çal Kapımı - Serkan & Eda in episode 14
Did you wear this dress on purpose?
(Why, yes, Serkan, she did.)
Liza, I got hooked on Sen Çal Kapimi from seeing gifs on your tumblr, so now I’m blaming you for this pain! Joking, it’s the best kind of pain,I love them so much, no regrets. Couple questions for you: why do you think Serkan lied? How long til Eda finds out the truth? Will she be able to live with it?
Ha! Sorry and you’re welcome! LOL. I love it too, but that episode was painful. It was great, a really good one, but Serkan being wrapped in grief for two straight hours while he tried to put on a brave face was rough. Hats off to Kerem, he did a fantastic job portraying that. I know that prior to the ep some thought Serkan seemed too happy in the fragman after what he found out, but now seeing the episode we know that before and after every smile you saw the absolute heartbreak in his eyes. Even the way he carried himself, you could actually see that he had the weight of the world on his shoulders. Then we get to the end of the ep... why Serkan why.
So we’ll start there, I think he lied because after overhearing Eda’s conversation with Ceren, he decided that she would never be able to forgive his family and that would taint their relationship irreparably. So I think he was trying to save her that pain. The pain of dredging up her parents death, the pain of being the one to break off the relationship, maybe the pain of them trying to go make it work and just dragging out the inevitable split. I think Serkan thinks the pain she’ll experience of him breaking things off is lesser than all of that. He ripped off the band-aid so she could move on and start healing. Besides Serkan has consistently worried that Eda will get tired of him so that insecurity is also at play. He thinks this breakup will be less painful for her, than it is for him, so he’s willing to take on all that pain to protect her from the awful truth.
Now as to how long until Eda finds out, I’m not sure, but this show seems to resolve things pretty quickly, so I don’t think that will drag out too long. I think Eda will figure out by the end of the next episode that there’s more behind Serkan breaking up with her. Give her a beat to work through the shock, anger and heartbreak, and she should start to realize fairly quickly that things don’t add up. Serkan going from being 100% ALL IN “I bought a house in Italy and am opening an office there” to “I can’t be with you because of... um... work” in like two days is pretty suspect. I hope we get a little bit of her trying to figure it out and/or get it out of him, because that would be entertaining.
As for if she’ll be able to live with it, eventually, yes, of course she will. Can I say how glad I am that the show gave them this type of obstacle? From a fictional perspective, it’s pretty much perfect. Because it’s huge and real and heartbreaking, but both of them are completely innocent. Neither of them did anything to hurt or betray the other. And it’s not manufactured internal angst either, for instance if he’d really broken up with her just because he freaked out about the relationship and threw himself into work. This is something real that they have to confront, but because they’re both blameless it’s not something that taints either character or the relationship, so they’ll be able to find a way through it and be stronger on the other side.
Grandma is obviously the specter over everything. I keep wondering if she’ll show up while Eda and Serkan are broken up, or just as they are about to get back together, or just after they’re back together to throw a new wrench into things. Should be good!
