I didn't do it on purpose... I know you love...
Serkan Bolat has only ever loved one woman
this might be a loaded question, but do you have your own personal favorite underrated edser moments? moments you think the fandom just doesn't talk about enough? i think my top one, which granted was talked about right after the episode aired, but not much at all after that, is when after their break up serkan tears the crust off some bread for eda absentmindedly because he knows she likes them like that..
What a great question. So great that I threw together a gif set of the crust scene. Here.
You know, with each episode being so long and having so many scenes, and with virtually no hiatus weeks, there are just so many things that don't get the discussion they deserve. After watching a 2 hour and 15 minute episode, it's impossible to retain everything you want to talk about. When I'm answering asks about my thoughts I always have to go back and scan through in order to remind myself of all the great stuff, and I still miss really precious moments. So here's a smattering in a sea of countless underrated scenes.
Episode 19 - 100% agree with your choice of Serkan tearing off the crusts for her. The way he did it completely unconsciously was heart-breaking and heart-warming at the same time. Fulfilling her wants and needs is something that is imprinted on his soul. He can't stop, even when he's putting his considerable effort towards doing so. And her reaction. Gah! It wrecked her, to have him do something that showed both how well he knew her and how much he cared even after he broke her heart. This scene here is the exact right kind of angst. It hurts, but it also exposes their love and heals. Cok güzel.
Episode 2 - When Serkan takes Eda to his house the morning after they signed the contract, there's a moment when she's meeting Sirius, and they're sitting on the steps and it's like Serkan... I don't know... truly sees her for the first time. Before this I think he'd seen her in terms of her physical beauty and her fire and passion, but I think this is one of the first times he really recognizes her inner beauty. Like seeing her immediately get along with Sirius awakens something in him and you see his eyes dart back and forth between Eda and the dog and he's looking at Eda with something very close to adoration. It's one of the very early indications that he was gone for her from the start.
Episode 9 - The bed scene in this episode gets it’s due, but the scene the next morning, not as much. After they've spent a cozy night together, I love the part where the girls and Ayfer call in the morning. The reactions when they realize Serkan is not only there but sleeping in the same bed is priceless. I can never get enough of Serkan bolting upright when he realizes he's on the facetime, or how sleepy Eda pushes the phone at Serkan and makes him deal with her family. It's funny because they're both adults and Ayfer and the girls think they've been engaged, so them sleeping, fully clothed, in the same bed, shouldn't be scandalous. Yet, it is.
Ayfer telling Serkan to commence the activities that take place right before the wedding was perfect, and I love that he's not afraid to hang up on her. Well done Serkan, that's one way to deal with meddling relatives. This little scene, that was done for laughs, felt significant to me in that way. Like Serkan facing a potentially annoying realty of being in her life and dealing with it, while Ayfer and the girls recognized that even if Serkan and Eda were in an argument, the relationship wasn't going away, and going forward, Serkan in all of their lives would be a reality.
Episode 15 - The cliffhanger of this episode doesn't get enough attention. In that scene, Serkan followed his instincts, and, through his connection with Eda, sensed where she would go and was the one who found her lying unconscious in that ravine and rescued her. THAT’S HUGE. I'm not suggesting any mystical connection brought him there, just that he knows her, knows her head space and has the mental acuity and emotional fortitude to put it all together. He knew her well enough to know she'd go towards the sea, not away from it. He knows she would be drawn to a better view, he's stood on enough bluffs with her over the episodes.
He understands her, and all of that translated to him sensing where to find her. It's no accident that Ceren, who should also know her, was hysterical and thus rendered useless. It was a nice juxtaposition to show that Serkan had everything necessary to be the one. His heart was probably racing with anxiety and his stomach churning with worry, but he kept his head, and combined heart and logic to find her. Everything about it screams that they belong to each other, and no matter their relationship status she can always depend on him. It was monumental, and we don't talk about it enough.
Episode 18 - Pretty much the whole thing. I honestly don't care if other fans like something or not, that doesn't sway me, but I was surprised by the negative reaction to this episode. I loved it, but it feels like large swaths of fandom hated it and dismissed it. I know it was a bummer that Serkan took Selin's side in the argument and then let her stay. However, beyond that, there are deeply significant scenes and development for both characters through the whole thing.
From Eda being the only one to believe in Serkan and standing fully behind him, to the vast number of times Serkan expressed how important she is to him. Then we have the funny/sexy library scene, the sweet autumn walk with the gift that showed how proud he was of her, plus Eda being his first guest at the loft and everything that happened in that scene; from her finding their photo to him mentoring and encouraging her professionally. On top of that, add Eda being the one to help Aydan leave the house. To me, the whole episode was important and rife with great moments that showed the depth of their feelings and it doesn’t get the recognition it deserves.
This was fun, thanks for the ask!
