On This Day (6/18): Ivory Gear

I kept trying to remember for days what show this was, what band this was, and what happened, and it finally hit me. Well, it makes sense that I don’t remember much about it. I was drunk as hell.
I was friends with essentially the band’s girlfriends. I really didn’t know the band too well. I was into one of them, which makes all of this incredibly awkward, but I am ever the gentleman and diplomat about these things so going to the show was fine. I just got drunk and watched them. They had sort of a ‘70s Pink Floyd but heavier vibe, like Hawkwind or something. I think this throwback kinda thing is overabundant and trashy, but that’s not to say the guys couldn’t play. They were fine, it’s just... get outside the box a bit. The ‘70s happened already.
One of the girls ended the night crying over her dude, because he was busy fucking around with groupies and didn’t want them to know he was seeing someone, sort of like the Beatles in the ‘60s only with trashy bar whores and none of the huge fanbase. This is all so silly in retrospect. I tried to be the good friend and be there for a while, but it started getting redundant so I bailed.
Weird night. Mediocre band. But it’s just one of those things you end up encountering being part of the scene. There’s always gonna be band douches and girls crying and drama. I tend to avoid the behind the scenes stuff, even with local bands, nowadays because of how nights would end like this.
