A true Bandcampsnoop end-around. What I really want to post is The Monks' classic "Black Monk Time" (so that link takes you to the YouTube album), but that doesn't exist in audio form on Bandcamp. Munster Records has recently repressed another reissue that IS on Bandcamp but with no audio. Light in the Attic also reissued this back in 2016, but theirs is a 2 LP version - also not on Bandcamp. The original came out in 1966 and is probably out of the price range of most of us.

The Monks are one of those bands you hear a lot about - they are important - and in this case, all the hype tracks. This absolutely sounds like a 1960s release, but from the unhinged side. Think of The Doors, The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band crossed with Chuck Berry. After listening to "Black Monk Time" you can absolutely see where bands like The Stooges, the recently posted Mirrors, and even the Feelies got part of their inspiration.

Part of the mystique of The Monks is their origin story. 5 military G.I.s stationed in Germany created this? I love that Third Man Records gave us this sweet 5 song "Hamburg Recordings 1967" in digital form.
