Scoot stood in the doorway, thoroughly admonished. Her hands were shoved into her pockets, her ears drooped; her shouldered were hunched, her eyes downcast. Ten minutes! Ten minutes of this Charr explaining how the ‘gifting’ of animals was not only inconsiderate to both critter and recipient, but irresponsible and also pretty rude. And where did she even manage to get twelve kittens? She was lucky that they were old enough to be away from their mothers, or things would be a lot worse, she could count on it… A stern Don’t do this again, understand? would have sufficed, but no. Here she was, being scolded. For ten. Alchemy-forsaken. Minutes. When would it end?
“And lastly, twelve is a bit much. Eleven we can handle, but twelve is a lot. So you get this one. Behave, kid.” A little lump of fuzz was held out, and Scoot barely had time to catch it before a clawed foot nudged her out onto the steps and the door shut behind her.
She wasn’t sure what to process first. The lecture was over, just like that. So she was free to go? But there was also a kitten in her hands. Kitten. Tiny fuzzy grey… thing. Staring back at her, as she stared at it. It didn’t meow, it didn’t squirm, it just… sat there, hind end dangling as the Asura held it beneath its forelegs.
And Scoot stared right back at it, yellow eyes nearly bugging out of her head. “Kitten? Kitten. Okay. Whhhhhat am I supposed to do with this?” She turned to question the Charr, but no– the door was already shut and the sound of footsteps had already faded into the house. So she was left to figure out what to do with this kitten all by herself?! That hardly seemed… fair.
The irony of the situation (now she was the one who’d been ‘gifted’ a kitten, very funny) struck her right between the eyes, and after the resulting frown had left her face– “Very funny, ha-ha, we’re all laughing, har-dee-har.” –she rested the tiny creature over her shoulder, carefully supporting its hind end so it didn’t slip off, and padded away to find some sort of food for it. And maybe a book on how to deal with cats.
What did kittens eat, anyhow?
