😺 from Flintlock.
Scoot stood in the doorway, thoroughly admonished. Her hands were shoved into her pockets, her ears drooped; her shouldered were hunched, her eyes downcast. Ten minutes! Ten minutes of this Charr explaining how the ‘gifting’ of animals was not only inconsiderate to both critter and recipient, but irresponsible and also pretty rude. And where did she even manage to get twelve kittens? She was lucky that they were old enough to be away from their mothers, or things would be a lot worse, she could count on it… A stern Don’t do this again, understand? would have sufficed, but no. Here she was, being scolded. For ten. Alchemy-forsaken. Minutes. When would it end?
“And lastly, twelve is a bit much. Eleven we can handle, but twelve is a lot. So you get this one. Behave, kid.” A little lump of fuzz was held out, and Scoot barely had time to catch it before a clawed foot nudged her out onto the steps and the door shut behind her.
She wasn’t sure what to process first. The lecture was over, just like that. So she was free to go? But there was also a kitten in her hands. Kitten. Tiny fuzzy grey… thing. Staring back at her, as she stared at it. It didn’t meow, it didn’t squirm, it just… sat there, hind end dangling as the Asura held it beneath its forelegs.
And Scoot stared right back at it, yellow eyes nearly bugging out of her head. “Kitten? Kitten. Okay. Whhhhhat am I supposed to do with this?” She turned to question the Charr, but no– the door was already shut and the sound of footsteps had already faded into the house. So she was left to figure out what to do with this kitten all by herself?! That hardly seemed… fair.
The irony of the situation (now she was the one who’d been ‘gifted’ a kitten, very funny) struck her right between the eyes, and after the resulting frown had left her face– “Very funny, ha-ha, we’re all laughing, har-dee-har.” –she rested the tiny creature over her shoulder, carefully supporting its hind end so it didn’t slip off, and padded away to find some sort of food for it. And maybe a book on how to deal with cats.
What did kittens eat, anyhow?

You know the one.
A Decent Attempt.
“Aaaaaand, go!”
Scoot opened her hands, letting the tiny mechanical amphibian experience its first draft of stale street atmosphere. Today’s lackluster endeavors had landed her in the city’s Salma district - a place she didn’t often frequent, but her morning had been so incredibly uneventful that she figured she’d try her luck with a new construct model, and Salma was where she had some of her “Yet to be tested” prototypes. And so here she was, perched on the steps near the district’s fountain, revealing her newest attempt to the ever-impassive world.
This frog was a bit more mobile than its predecessors. It was quicker, built for escaping situations where it might be discovered by the wrong folks. Designed for speed over any other function.
Right now, though, it wasn’t speeding anywhere.
Frowning at the small frog, Scoot bounced her palms in an attempt to prompt the construct into some sort of motion. “...Go,” she tried again, quieter that time as she thrust her hands forward. Birds chirped, glass shattered in the nearby tavern. But the frog didn’t move.
“Come on, you dumb little...” Her tiny brow furrowed, and one stub-clawed thumb folded in to gently prod said Dumb Little Thing. That seemed to do the trick! It tensed the bundles of metal filaments that served as muscles, and launched from her hand onto the cobblestone street. Scoot hopped down after it, nodding to herself, making mental notes of what to modify. “Good. Better.” Three asura-sized steps brought her into grabbing distance of the small frog. As she knelt to pick the thing up, it gave a hollow, metallic croak and hopped out of reach. Scoot huffed a little breath through her teeth, a tiny amused snort as she shuffled after it. But as soon as she was close enough, it distanced itself. Again.
Well, this was annoying.
She started after it. Quicker, this time. She swiped, it jumped. She dived, it hopped. It seemed to evade her every attempt to capture it - the irony of which was lost on her. Her own creation, doing its job so well that even she was unable to catch it! But now wasn’t the time to reflect and laugh. Now was the time for catching wayward mechanical frogs.
The chase was comical, if not short-lived. Scoot stumbled after the frog for a solid minute before one fateful leap carried it around a corner and out of sight. Scoot followed suit, skidding on the stones and righting herself just in time to see one of the city’s many stray dogs standing before her...
...with a frog in its mouth.
She couldn’t backpedal hard enough. Dogs always put Scoot into flight mode: her feet slipped, pushed air, and she ended on her backside, scrabbling backwards to get away from the dog that was clearly no more hostile towards her than the frog was. “...Noooo,” she whispered under her breath. She could see one bright yellow leg dangling from between the dog’s teeth - teeth that could catch her just as easily, and then she’d be no better off than the frog.
Nope. Not worth it.
Reflex turned her gaze to the nearest patch of shadow, and she reached a hand towards it, blinking away from the situation before her arm was even fully outstretched. She pushed herself to her feet and vaulted over some crates, intent on getting the heck out of there before the dog decided it was more interested in an asura dinner. It wasn’t until she was safely out of Salma and catching her breath beneath the towering torches of Rurikton’s amphitheater did she finally accept that the beast wasn’t pursuing her. With an exhale that seemed bigger than what she could produce, she slouched against a pillar and folded her arms over her chest.
For a long time, she stayed like that. She stared crossly into middle space, motionless save for the occasional flick of an ear. Birds chirped, a citizen helped his drunk friend stagger home. But the asura did not move.
Until finally! In a rush of movement she pushed away from the pillar and beelined for her hideout. “Sensitivity needs to be less. Increase the fiber count but decrease the hair trigger...” Work notes. She was making work notes? After all that, she hadn’t been dissuaded from trying again, and it was clear there’d be another bright yellow mechanical frog running looks in the streets of Divinity’s Reach in the near future...
