Package scoremipsum 0.0.9 released

New alpha version 0.0.9 of scoremipsum now out on pypi. This has a couple of bug fixes, cleans up some code around the ops module, starts work on abstracting the help content, and puts in a placeholder for config command. Also removes a duplicate set of unit tests, though I still have much work to do there to add more / better tests...

Nothing screamingly urgent or exciting, but as it's the end of the iteration, wanted to close out the Rally stories and defects as "Delivered", so here we are.

Time available for this project will be shrinking shortly, but some targets to address soon: help / readme content, Generation class (currently not useful), additional coverage via pytest, and cleanup of the sanity output to make it more user friendly.

Scoremipsum v0.0.8 now out. This adds the ability to generate scores for the sports of Baseball and Basketball, though the latter is very primitive. Some other things were cleaned up, including removal of a duplicate unit test set. Three stories were added to enhance the Basketball scores and fix a set of disjointed functions. At some point I’ll need to document the present flow as I discovered that I removed an intended step in the end to end generation. When tests broke, I must have short circuited the original design.

Not planning too much more for this week as other projects need some time before sprint end.

On a side note, wondering what the proper process for minor corrections in a package version should be. Ended up essentially skipping over 0.0.6 because of this, and pypi considers it as yanked.

Breakage

Did something unwise last weekend. Had a couple of small changes that were supposed to go in scoremipsum 0.0.6, but I forgot to build the artifact prior to the sprint end. Normally that wouldn't be too bad, but then I started working on refactoring the module names in an effort to simplify the namespace (for one of the packaging stories). And of course, working by myself, there aren't any feature branches... just master.

Well, I broke things. Lots of things. Thank goodness I had a few relatively decent test suites... enough to be able to recheck lots fairly quickly. Once I got over the amount of failures, the fixes went rather quickly. Right now all is back to working and clean, but not sure how much improvement has been made for the story. Just glad to be back to functional.

Way behind on Rally stories for the week though. Work search stuff and interview prep. That's a good thing, hopefully.

Monday Sprint Update: 2025-03-10

(Okay, it's Tuesday; sue me... or pretend it was a holiday) 😁 Got caught up with job hunt paperwork and updates, so not too much progress on the various trainings and projects since last week. Highlights: - python package "scoremipsum" released 0.0.5 (with original 1.0 features) - initial review feedback received (thanks Joseph Bane) and converted to upcoming stories - bug fixes and fleshing out of initial features Iteration 2025-05: Finished 5.25 of 9.5 points, with 2.25 points complete but undelivered (haven't published the pypi artifact yet). That's what I get for assuming I'd get to something before Monday. Need to verify that I left myself a clean build before publishing, but that should happen today. Moving 2 points into iteration 2025-06: package entry point / default script and uv work. Since -06 already had 12+ points planned, moving some items out, including the C# work. Looks like that'll need to stay in this sprint, as some upcoming opportunities will need it. And of course, if you like how I track these kinds of personal projects, just imagine the work I do when I get paid for it...

More Scorem feedback

Bunch of good feedback came in from Joe B today. Much of it is already in the backlog (markdown, sanity test, init, pytest) but definitely some items I hadn't yet considered (tox, black, isort, move to python v3.10). Everything's in the backlog (30 items for SCOREM now, after this week). Still at v0.0.5 in both test and prod pypi.

Python package “scoremipsum” now available at v0.0.5 on pypi.org, with all planned v1.0 features (such as they are). Definitely want more review feedback and cleanup before a real production release.

The Python Package Index (PyPI) is a repository of software for the Python programming language.

Reddit user @Phillyclause89 has really stepped up and provided lots of helpful feedback and tips. First instance, he suggested getting GitHub workflows functional and opening repo to public (so reviewers would have more trust in loading package). I’d planned on doing both eventually but it made sense to just do it.

There’s a handful of items originally targeted for v1.x versions that I may now roll into an official production v1.0 release soon. However, I want to switch back to C# work for a few days so it doesn’t stray too far from my brain. Hopefully, I’ll get some additional package feedback in the meantime.

Score one Python package!

Python package “scoremipsum” is now live in production Pypi. Still in a prerelease form - version 0.0.4 currently - but wanted to get the name secured.

Tried contacting the fellow who published the original name "scorem" three years back. It appears to be abandoned, not updated since then. Will give him a chance to update but I’d certainly like that name, as I have it on TestPypi already.

Sent out the first set of updates to the package review folks. Let’s see what we can see. Got some things to add still, before we’re really ready for a release. Plus it’s my first real python package and surely needs a lot of TLC. Not doing a formal announcement until v1.0 is ready - hopefully by this weekend.
