Port Charlotte has been a favorite of ours since our very first sip. When we heard a 10 year was in the works, we were ecstatic. However this is not simply the old Scottish Barley with an Age Statement, this is a different whisky. The NAS Scottish Barley spent it's time in ex-bourbon barrels, and a note of smoked salmon is predominate. The new 10-year comes from first- and second-fill American oak, as well as second-fill French wine casks. It's sweeter, less savory, and the peat comes through as ashy. No matter your preference, these are both stellar expressions from @bruichladdich, who in our minds produce nothing but liquid gold.
