When Jason wasn’t plotting schemes worthy of a bad CW show, he liked to take refuge in music. His mom made him take piano lessons every week from the ages of seven to sixteen, despite his consistent efforts to ditch them for neighborhood basketball, so he knew his way around a set of ivories. Whether he liked it or not, it was relaxing. Cathartic, even, to hammer out all of his frustrations on the keys. He sang things like I hate you dad and why doesn’t this school have burritos in his head as he pounded out the chords to Beethoven’s 5th Symphony, a tried and true classic for snooty piano instructors all across the nation. 

The door to the practice room opened, and Jason continued to play for about five seconds until he remembered where he was and stopped with a melisma of discordant notes. Jason offered his new company The Nod™, gesturing to the grand piano like it was a 1965 Shelby GT and he’d just been under the hood. 

“Hey,” he said. “Was just having it out with the Beets. You know how it is.” A long beat of awkward silence followed. “Did you wanna use the room? I can leave.”

Okay, okay. Sitting in engineering with a glass of whisky, a sandwich and the new specifications for upgrades to the ship that Starfleet and myself just approved. [whispers] They're gonna let you fiddle with the transporters at the next starbase.

... There we go. That's more like it. I do enjoy a good sandwich and fiddling with transporters on a fine looking ship like this. Would you care to keep me company? You've got some good nacelles yourself, or so I've been told.
