how do you feel about so many people not liking you?
“It’s... dispiriting. I feel like a pariah on this island. I enjoy my own company, but I don’t want to be alone all of the time. I didn’t expect I’d be friendly with everyone here, but I never imagined people would find my company so objectionable. And those gossipers aren’t helping matters. They make me sound so... unappealing. I feel one needs a very thick skin to get on around here...”
