I was commissioned to make three of these. The second one from the left I just made because the pieces were cut out. I charged her $45.00 and she paid me $80.00. I’ve got an idea to use this pattern to make a dice bag… started experimenting this evening. Stay tuned!

Turned my scraps into a bag! Even the handles are recycled (gifted by an old colleague as she was destashing) now I just need to sew on a popper.

My LQS has a scrap exchange basket - drop off your scraps, and you can take a quart-bag of scraps with you (minus $6 for the bag and providing the service). I don't mind the fee because I can happily spend a quarter-hour digging through the scrap basket looking for things and figuring out the best way to fold them to get as much as possible for that $6.

Yesterday I took a gallon bag of scraps and picked up 2 quart bags of scraps in return. Those big folded pieces are at least 10x10" and some are fat quarter size.

And look what else I picked up in the scrap basket? Someone dropped off a ton of 2.5"s in matching colorway:

Another adventure into the scrap box! Recently Mia really enjoys pulling tissues out of the tissue box and wipes out of their packaging, so I decided to make something similar. I made a patchwork pencil-case-sized case using a zipper I took off an old bag. Mia is super interested in zipper pulls, so I was glad I had such a thick zipper with a heavy pull! I made some little patchwork sheets to go inside. I even cut a rectangle of plastic off an empty cereal bag and put it inside one sheet. That way it makes happy crinkling sounds while she plays!

I've been adding interesting things onto the scrap-cloth cubes I made a while back. I got a present with a pretty red ribbon on it, so I added that around one edge of a cube. Then, one of Mia's hand-me-down pajama outfits was on it's last legs, but the long zipper was still good! So, I took the zipper out and ran it around the edge of a smaller cube. It and be unzipped but not opened, so the stuffing doesn't fall out of the cube :p

Linen shopping bag - a last minute present

So I looked at the calendar on Sunday night and realised that we had both forgotten my sister-in-law's birthday. She visits most Tuesdays so I was heading off to the garden centre to purchase some suitably lovely floral gift but thought I'd better check with HQ first. My brilliant husband pointed out that flowers were what his sister has plenty of these days as her retired husband devotes his days to the garden. He suggested that she always admires whatever I happen to be making and that I should make her an original bag. After a rummage through my somewhat disordered stash, I found some furnishing weight linen samples from Next and some lighter weight floral linen from Laura Ashley. Both had been given to me so all I needed to supply was thread and imagination. So a truly scrap bag was born. I hope she likes it!
