fic idea at 6in the morning unedited. Basically a single incoherent stream of thought
Human au, hector is a small time writer for books with covers that look like a hunky man and a swooning boxom woman, granny smut. But it's actually pretty troublesome to read in places and the smut is pretty dense and wordy which is why it doesn't sell so well
Reader is a fan and writes a letter bc hector is taking a really long hiatus about a cowboy story and wants to poke his brain about his ideas.
Hence a pen pal friendship that turns into love. Is it silly to feel like you know a person simply through letters? To fall in love without having seen the others face, only how they cross their t's and dot their i's ?
Standard situation of hector doesnt want you to see his facebut his publisher has scheduled a book signing to drum up sales and he's forced to attend (doesn't even have his face on the authors bio in the back of his books lol)
Reader says they'd attend and OH NO! ANXIETY! like of course they'd know what he looks like, he's the one at the table signing books but reader could be anyone! What if they don't like him or he's different than imagine and they just never say anything!
AND CONCURRENT TO ALL THIS is a meta story of the cowboy that hector is writing. A story within a story. Some small time grocer in a frontier town. Spends his nights as a rugged midnight man of justice, shooting bandits and stopping train robberys , all that cowboy stuff.
The cowboy is lonesome but his works are exulted by the townsfolk while the humble grocer is just that, humble. He's one of the small folk and no one really pays him any mind. His love interest, a school teacher, is new in town and the lonesome grocer falls head over heels, and as the roughish cowboy he whisks her away from dangers that somehow (cough plot ) find their way to the them. But uh oh, plot happens (hectors stuck on what it could be) and the grocer has to decide if he wants to continue being the grocer or devote himself to the cowboy. And worse! His love is trapped somewhere and if he goes, everyone will know he's the cowboy! (Hectors head is in his hands he is so screwed by the logistics and writers block, open weeping full snot)
Anywayss if I was a better stronger man I would write this, maybe one day
