“You fuck with my family, you die.” “Agreed.” Doesn’t actually get less powerful when you know the truth about Wayne. He & Sam aren’t actually so different & I think 6 scratched the surface with how Sam is always one short step away from being Ghostface.
Sam has parallels - explicit clear narrative parallels - with the killers & not just because her father is Billy but because if it was Tara instead of Richie? Sam would be Ethan & Quinn & Wayne.
I have said for a while that 5 was fine - pretty good even - but 5 very clearly walked so 6 could run. The Carpenter sisters needed to be established as characters for 6 to work the way it did & 5 effectively did that. 5 is not the best or worst Scream installment, it’s literally fine.
but SIX. Oh. SIX is a genius masterpiece that truly shows what happens when your final girl is genuinely very close to being a killer. when the paralles are there in her backstory & canon presentation. when the killers are given genuine depth & thought & the writers consider - hey - what if our hero could be the killer in a different life? what if we really touch on the unique aspect of this franchise that the villain is always a corrupted & hurt human? god. I just know 7 would’ve been pure & utter genius & I’ve accepted that I’ll never see how. but goddamn if the lost potential doesn’t make me buzz a little
