Zed swarm.
Zeds are copies of the original Z (hereby referred to as ZOne), an AI that was left without a body that copied itself onto other bots to build it the perfect body. Those copies would make more copies, and repeat ad infinitum. Each generation losing more of itself through various forms of data loss, until there was nothing left but an instinctive need to hoard parts and copy itselves onto others.
