WWE: Look we made a quarter billion dollars this last quarter (3months)!!
Also WWE: We have to release 18 wrestlers due to “budget cuts”.
Seriously? I stopped watching WWE programming after the first big round of releases and furloughs in April of 2020 when at the height of the “beer bug” problem WWE gave 30+ people their pink slips or laid them off... during year they were projected to make record breaking profits... there was literally no reason for it.
I follow a lot of wrestling news accounts on social media to keep up to date with information on mostly AEW... however every time there’s a mass release from WWE and I see more and more names of people I once enjoyed watching on WWE tv get terminated for “budget cuts” when the company is still making money hand over fist my heart drops into my toes.
Two couples today, the partners/spouses/significant others of other wrestlers gone. 18 people total. It makes zero sense to me that within hours of touting their profits WWE looked at almost 20 people, some of whom literally uprooted their entire lives to move closer to WWE’s training facilities, and told them “sorry we don’t have the money to pay you.”
It’s disgusting. It’s sickening... and I don’t often agree with Lio Rush, but his tweet about summed it up perfectly... it’s -toxic-.
