Breaking the Bank, Step Two
Well, I learned something this week. I suck at keeping up with money. Like seriously suck. With a capital S. SUUUUUUUUUUUCK. You would think that someone who is going to be a math teacher would be a little bit better at it, but trust me, I SUUUUUCK. Turns out, apparently I spent over multiple times in my bank what I actually had in there. And apparently every time you overspend, they charge you $33.00 so that your card does not decline. And apparently I spent over so much I wound up being yesterday like, oh, I don't know, -$145.00. So when my $255.00 paycheck came in, all I got was $110.19.
Needless to say I cried. Like a freaking baby. I was so mad.
But you know what, as I was crying over my own stupidity with my mom, and in between her lecturing me on how I needed to learn to keep up with my money, we both agreed on something: it's better I seriously fudd up now, before I have a husband, a house, three screaming brats, and about a gazillion bills to pay.
And you know what? I think everyone needs to fudd up like I did at least once. You know, maybe not as bad, but a little fudd. Because us young and invincible college students, teenagers, and tweenies, aren't really all that invincible. And sometimes it takes us having to adventure down the road of "oh shit, did I really do that?! Friiiiick!" to realize that.
So, out of all this, I have started my adventure of keeping a ledger, as my mammy calls it. I found some template on Excel that I found that works for me. (Note to all, if you're going to start keeping a ledger, Excel has about a bazillion different ones, so trust me, it may not be Quicken, but there is something there that can get you started, I think mine was like Personal Budget Tracker or something. I don't know.) You know, I'm a math person, so I think I'm going to like this little adventure...maybe...
Little steps, Nichole, little steps...
